Hello all you campers! We have just bought a Rage 8 man deluxe because we are off for our first family holiday camping on the west coast of France at the end of August. I haven't camped for a very long time and this tent attracted my attention because of the height and size of the central living space. I am hoping that we aren't going to get any bad weather but nobody wants rubbish weather....but now after reading some of the postings I feel slightly discouraged about my purchase. Is there anyone who can give me some more positive feedback about this tent because I now fear I have made a wrong choice.
Thanks
Amanda

For the price it is a good tent and the living space is fantastic! We got 9 people in mine quite comfortably for teas in the wet weather, table chairs the lot! So long as the weather holds out you'll be fine.
Hi Steve do you still have the instructions for the rage tromso 8, we were donated one and plan to use it this weekend (going out Thurs), can you if you have send me a copy of the instructions along with what should be in the tent bag. Would really appreicate it. Yvonne

Rage Tromso Deluxe 8 man tent Review
Bought this tent off an ebay seller and not knowing alot about camping being a first time camper was dissapointed.
On erection two of the main pegging out ring to tent straps came away due to poor stitching, overall stitching was poor quality.
The overall tent size was great and there was plenty of room, but there was a lack of ventalition and the tent got very hot, the orange piping on the tent attracted the insects in their swarms.
The tent material was thin and on chatting with others about this tent i found it only had a HH of 1500, this was stated on the ebayers sale page, but being new to camping didnt mean anything to me until now.
We had no rain so i can not say what it is like in the rain or wind...
Overall i am dissapointed with this tent and plan to buy a decent make one asap and use this as a backup...
out of 10 id give this tent a 5 and would not recommend it...

I've had a Rage Tromso Deluxe 8 for a year and a half and think its a great tent. Keeps out the rain and is big every thing I need so I must be the lucky one that got the only good tent.
I've just lost this weekends camping in Newquay because of this damn awful excuse for a tent! My OH can ill afford £150 but she liked the look of it on the ebay page. I will be looking at getting a full refund for her, using Consumer Direct if necessary. We had used a Eurohike Family or a borrowed Outwell Montana until now.
When it arrived I was worried because of the flimsy bag it came in - the handles were thin and weak feeling and the clippable straps hardly reached across when it was factory-packed let alone when we'ds had a peek. The bag wouldn't have lasted any time at all. I noticed the guylines seemed a little thin then too. On arriving on site this afternoon I got the boys to start assembling the poles and about 2 minutes later they said "It's come apart"! The shock-line had snapped and it took about half an hour to laboriously re-thread it, making me irritable from the get-go.
The more of the tent I touched as we put it up the less I liked what I was seeing. The poles were the shoddiest pieces I'd ever seen, the fibreglass already splitting and with metal burrs that would catch the fabric. The worst bits were the pole anchor pins, which just didn't hold the poles very well at all and the bedroom external vents, which were dreadful compared to the Outwell, no decent closure options to speak of.
I hadn't realised the Tromso came with a separate living area groundsheet, in the end we never bothered laying it down because we'd run out of pegs by then. As many on this thread have said the instructions are poor but just about usable. The bedroom pods were just a joke when we put them up, the just hung like cheap supermarket carrier bags whatever we did to stretch them out.
The worst thing was the height, it seems huge from the pictures on ebay and from outside but I could only stand straight right at the very centre of the living space (I'm 6 ft 1, but didn't have any problem in the Montana).
My OH and I fell out in a big way, she thinks I blame her for buying a c*&p tent and wasting money, I was just annoyed that we were silly enough to be conned into buying this very very poor quality tent. In the end I told her I just wasn't interested in sleeping even one night in this tent and we packed and drove home, mostly in silence. the kids are upset, my OH and I aren't talking and all because of a stupid tent.
It's always worth a google or a search on here before buying a tent, should help you sort out the good from the bad.
Personally I'd stick to the well known brands but others will disagree with that. We have the Montana 6 and it's a brill tent, our Vango 500 is good for a weekend too and only cost us £80 odd a few years back.

Snowy, I know what you're saying about reading reviews and I normally do but this one slipped past me.
Still, all's well that ends well and we returned to Hendra (with the Montana!) on Saturday to some fine weather. The kids had a great time in the adventure playgrounds while OH & I put up the tent (Following Yeoman Outdoors method from Youtube took the pitch time down to 15 Mins!). It was a welcome relief to get back into the Outwell, I can tell you and we spent a great day or so on site. The kids managed about 6 hours in the Oasis indoor pool in total, we visited Crantock Beach in twilight on Saturday night then went for a drink at the Bowgie Inn. On Sunday we had a superb cream tea at Carnewas/Bedruthan Steps cafe before heading for home via a look at Sun Haven Valley campsite, Mawgan Porth - the pitches next to the river look very nice. Off to the Motorhome & RV Show at the Bath & West Showground this weekend, they said on the phone that quite a few people just camp under canvas for the weekend there and they have no problems about it. Happy Camping!
i have had a rage tromso deluxe 8 for nearly 4 years and its still great? best tent we have had and we have been camping for 16 years now, never had a problem with it... martin
You know I'm constantly amazed by the number of folk that come on this forum and for their first ever post they tell us how great their Rage tent is. Then they go away and never come back. Weird, eh?

we borrowed a Rage Tromso 10 for our first camping trip this year would i buy one NO please dont waste your money i hope this thread comes up on a google search or whatever
It was only the second time the tent had ever been pitched it cost £90 of E-bay
three of the poles had already snapped some of the tabs that hold the guy lines on had already broken off the groundsheet did not fit the tent it was way to small.the tent had about a 3" gap all the way around so a draft was an understatment. It did rain and it did not leak maybe we were lucky. we were not put off camping just the tent
some people laugh at the tent we have now but its about to go on its 4th outing and i must say it still amazes me so big and so well built
