Was wondering if anyone has got a Vermont l and pitched it yet ? We pitched ours yesterday and had real problems with it. Below is a list of the problems we have emailed to the company we brought it from.
Looking at the front of the tent the following was observed
On my Right (Non adjustable straps)
Sleeve for roof bars sitting at bend on vertical bars
Mud wall touching floor
Ground sheet on floor
On my Left (Adjustable straps)
Sleeve for roof bars sitting 3-4 inches from bend on vertical bars
Adjustable straps all at max and cant be adjusted
Mud wall 3 inches off floor
Ground sheet off floor by poles
Where straps fixed to tent and groundsheet, visible stress
Rear door on left g/sheet off floor by 2-3 in
Front
In the porch there is a strap which connects the two front poles together, we could not connect this as it was too short by 3-4 inches
After completion I have come to the conclusion that the fault is with the poles, They must be too long... Either the height of the vertical poles or the arch roof poles... My money is on the curved roof poles ours are 2.66 m long . However you look at it there seems to be this issue of 3-4 inches.. We checked to make sure all the poles are the same .
We would be interested to know if anyone else has had any problems.

We bought a Vermont L and pitched it about 4 weeks ago, all seemed well, only small prob we found was putting rings into bottom of poles, didnt think that they were actually going to reach at one point. We were swinging around like a right couple of idiots and they just kept slipping through our hands. My other half was having trouble gripping the poles to click the pins in but (by some wierd stroke of luck) he had some gloves in the car with rubber grips on them and we found as soon as he could actually grip the poles properly they semed to go in o.k. Gave it a quick check and it all appeared fine. Cant think of any other problems. We havent actually been away in it yet but fingers crossed all will be well!
Just a thought because i know (to my expense )that it's an easy thing not to know. Are all the adjustable straps fully loosened off when putting the pins into the poles, otherwise this can cause major problems trying to get the pins into the poles and also to the final adjustment of the tent itself. I always fully loosen my straps when taking the tent down now so that it's all ready to go when putting back up.
Do you know, I didnt check to be honest, Just presumed that other half had done all the sensible stuff! Thanks for that. I will ask him tonight and if he didnt loosen them then we will def make sure we have checked that next time we put it up! Cant tell that much that i'm pretty new to this can you?!?!

If i remember rightly, when we first put up our nebraska last year the straps were not loosened off, and like you, we were swinging around like a couple of idiots on the campsite trying to get the pins in the poles. Then we suddenly realised it might help if we slackened them off...and it did! So you might find the straps on a new outwell come tensioned rather than loosened... hence your problem.
We have errected our Vermont many times now and I havn't discovered any problems with it as yet. It went up in just over half an hour and sat perfectly on the ground.
Its a new range this year so judging by last year it would not surprise me if there are some faulty ones out there. I just need to do a leak test on my one now and then I am happy.
Hi, This is my first posting to the site.After pondering over a khyam (with no ground sheet)we decided to go for a Outwell montanna But the found out that an extra canopy would be £100.00 that would be £429.00 so we then went for the vermont L £449.00 with the xtra porch already on.We got ours from Yeomans in northampton Fantastic service,the young girl there said that in your 1st attempt the vermont will take about 50 mins to erect peg down etc.Just to say that we put ours up today for the first time and IT WAS EASY it is just like it says on the instructions and like the girl explained in the shop we did it in 40 mins but i reckon at a push you could get the time down a little.The first thread sherylwarwick says a couple of things not fitting ie front porch torque strap ground sheet etc,whatt I think we all tend to do is to pull the corners/guy ropes as taut as possible,that is where a lot of us make mistakes,and then we find that the rest of the tent does'nt come together creases etc.I hope this helps.

Friends of ours pitched theirs for the first time yesterday in our street look here to how they got on , they found putting the poles in were fine but attached the pins to the bottom of the poles were a struggle but they loosened the fly a bit and they went in . Its large tent bigger than the montanna they were originally going to get but the added advantage was the built on porch, thats what swung it for them

I found that instead of struggling to get the pins in the poles, just break the first joint in the pole that will give you a couple of cm and then put in the pins and then it is a lot easier to re-join the pole rather than fiddle with the pin.Again hope it all helps
is any one having probs with the wardrobe lifting the ground sheet off the ground by 5 ins , and there's quite a bit of tension where its fixed on the roof

Yes, mine lifts the groundsheet by the wardrobe ( not by 5ins though, probably 2inches max. ). It also lifts where the bedroom pod attaches to the floor.
We have used the Vermont quite a few times now but this weekend was the first time it had rained heavily. I found 2 leaks in our Vermont. Water was coming in through the front zip on the porch. It also comes in right in the centre of the tent where the seam goes across.
Getting a bit fed up now with Outwell. This is going to be the 4th Outwell tent I have returned in less than 12 months. Last year I returned a Monty 6 and 2 x Nebraskas. This Vermont replaced the faulty Nebraska I had last season ( yes, the third one ) and now I seem to be having problems with this.
I bought a Royal Pescara 8 a couple of weeks ago. Only used it once so far but seems to be a lot better built than my Outwell. Havn't done a leak test on it yet.
After years of going with Outwell, the last couple of seasons I seem to have had nothing but problems with them. I guess its time for a change now. I broke my own golden rule this year when I said I was not going to buy another Outwell tent ( well guess I didn't really as the Vermont was a replacement for a faulty Nebraska ).

Not the same tent , but a similar problem, our SV8 2006 had it's first outing this weekend and the 3rd bedroom attachment points were in totally the wrong place, must have been out by 6 inches at least. The inners come already attached so we didn't notice at first. We couldn't get tent right until we had sussed that one out. It was also lifting the sig up. Not sure what to do about this .. as I guess we could use the bedroom without it being attached to the floor.. it was bought at the end of last season.. september I think .. but was never out of the bag. We bought it from an advert on here.

We've had our vermont replaced. The flap covering the zip was actually folded back and sewn to the tent. Haven't had chance to take the new one out yet, fingers crossed !!
Blimey, you Outwell enthusiasts are very dedicated, that's for sure! What a shame that Outwell doesn't appreciate it's loyal customer base, and get it's act together on quality control / manufacturing issues!
We bought a Bear Lake (we do like the Outwell designs - who wouldn't?) but then, having read on here about BrummyGit having problems with his door zip, decided to see a good few on exhibition and check this out, prior to opening ours. Sure enough, we couldn't zip the doors up on any that we saw pitched. They all look fab, pitched with their doors neatly folded back, but who thinks to un-fasten and zip up the door, to test, prior to purchase? We thought about options to remedy this; pushing the legs together more might help to reduce tension on the zip, but you'd end up with a higher doorway, which then wouldn't zip up properly at the top andwould raise the ZIG at the bottom!
We took our unopened tent back, for a refund, and won't be touching Outwell again until there are seriously fewer problems being reported on these boards.
