Going camping this w/end for 9 nights just north of Shrewsbury. Just wondering if any of you good people could give us some suggestions on places to visit in the area. We are ok on places in Wales as we know it quite well, but wondering if you know of nice places this side of the border. Thanks in advance.

Hi Geoff, depends what you like doing, there are loads of English Heritage places in Shropshire, Hawkstone Park follies nice for walking and good views from the tower. Shrewsbury itself is a lovely town. Boat trip on the Severn as it runs through the town? Battlefield Falconry, the list is endless. However, I think you will have to decide what you want to do prior to visiting and pre-book tickets given current circumstances.

Ironbridge is nice, some good pubs and cafes on the Wharfage open now. Parking is free until August to get people in.
Nice walks along riverbank.
Blists Hill Victorian town is now open again.
Roman town at Wroxeter betwen Shrewsbury and Ironbridge.

A little further at Cosford is RAF Museum, well worth a visit. Its free with parking at £4. You need to book a time to arrive online due to Covid rules. Its off J3 M54.

Unfortunately the Severn Valley steam railway isn't reopening until August
Bridgnorth is a pretty town too.

Thanks guys I will check all your suggestions before we go, not going till Sunday so got a couple of evenings to check them out. I have checked and should be able to tether from our phones to get internet so should be able to keep in touch. Walking is our main pastime. But being members of English Heritage & National Trust, visiting their places is always on our to do list. Thanks again

If you like walking Geoff the carding mill valley in Church Stretton is a nice walk, a steep climb to the top onto the Malvern hills and down the road back to Church Stretton is a good walk, the views from the top are superb on a clear day, we have done it twice now, the valley is a NT property

Thank you. What a superb day out today. Well worth the climb. Not bad for a couple of pensioners (well I am) lol.
