Hi, can anyone suggest any places to see within about 45mins drive from Builth Wells. We're staying at a campsite next week for a few nights and wanted to take my 3 year old an 1 year old somewhere.
We were planning on going to the showcaves in Brecon Beacons, but unfortunately the caves are not suitable for prams, so I don't think I would get my 1 year old around.
We have a dog, so will be doing walking etc, but just wondered if there were any nice farms, adventure areas etc.
Thanks Kate.
Going to Fforest Fields - I see you're going there in May.
Not been before, so trying to think of things to do to 1. relax, and 2. amuse my daughters!
As you're going to Fforest Fields you won't need many extra places to go as long as your 3 year old likes getting wet and muddy!
Make sure you take a fishing net and bucket, small inflatable dingy for a little pond (or bigger one if you're going in the lake with them) and plenty of shower gel for afterwards!
It's a great site for playing games (cricket, swingball, football, bike, scooter, etc.) with lots of space to run around so should get nice and tired!
Quackers, indoor play barn is at Newbridge, just outside Llandrindod, 8-10 miles away.
Red kite feeding 3pm at the Gigrin in Rhayader, 10 miles, they have 2 white kites feeding there at the moment. They had baby peacocks last time I was there which were lovely.
Cantref, just outside Brecon, large indoor play area, outdoor animals etc.
45 minutes would also get you to Aberystwyth for the day by the seaside, you could even catch the train from Devils bridge.....
Personally I wouldn't go to Dan yr ogof, mine were bored there.
------------- Visit Llandrindod Wells! Great scenery, walks, cycling, red kites. Ideal for exploring Mid Wales.
i thought the showcaves were great, you could take a sling or back child carrier if you have one. Elan Valley is beautiful as well as the Brecon Beacons. There's a steam train on the Brecon Beacons which is also good. Hay-on-wye is also worth a visit especially if you read, found a great kid friendly restaurant there.

rosewall in july
blackberry wood in august
The caves were Ok, I didn't appreciate the price of food in the restaurent, and the kids weren't over impressed. They did like the shire horses but not a lot else. Elan Valley is stunning, I agree, they also have a small play area for kids.

sod the kids, i was impressed with the caves! i thought the cathedral cave was amazing. it was a really beautiful space, i see why people get married in it. we didn't bother with the horses as like most days when we were there, it was raining.

A bit further than 45mins more like an hour...I am a volunteer at the Dyfi osprey project which is in Machynlleth, Powys...
There is easy access for pushchairs on our boardwalk, we do have a hide though which you can't take pushchairs into...We do have a whole miriad of rare british wildlife aswell as the one of the most rarest bird of prey in the uk-Ospreys, we also now have our buffalo back for the summer..
Thanks everyone for the replies. Unfortunately due to unforseen circumstances we were only able to spend 2 days there, so not much chance to look around. The site was really nice and relaxing though. Highly recommended. We will plan to go again to try and see more.
We can definitely recommend the Hundred House pub about half a mile from the site. They were friendly to the children, the meals were cheap and nice!
keigcf recommended Cantref Adventure park; we went there and personally wouldn't recommend it for a holiday outing. Yes the indoor play area is good, but no different to ones near my house. The outdoor adventure area to me was a waste of money. The slides werent working, tractor ride and feeding of animals were cancelled. There was a pet the rabits section and feeding the lambs section but they were timed about 2 hours between each so too much hanging around.
Definitely look forward to revisiting fforest fields.
very jealous we can't go this year. my children played in small ponds for ages (we took small seaside nets to catch newts etc & released them!) Take them on the lake in dingy too. Beautiful place and plenty of areas to go for a walk. The Stars pub down the road is excellent, a bit like going back in time though but great food and friendly.
