We usually go camping in Weymouth a few times a year, have found a great site to go to and love the area.
Wondered if anyone had any ideas of where to go/what to do when you have dogs? I know I see a lot of reviews etc on here where people take their dogs camping with them. Ours loves it but aside from going on the beach somewhere we are always a bit stuck on what to do.
Can anyone give any suggestions, or know of a good website that would provide some ideas?
Not sure which campsite you use but we've been here..campsite It's a nice clean dog friendly site with a nice walk just off the site and some good walks in the local area. There's a dog friendly beach in Weymouth too.

That's exactly the one Bonzo! It's great there, isn't it?
We've done a lot of walks along the beach, in the town and gone out to beaches at Durdle Door, Lulworth Cove, Bridport etc. Been into Dorchester too. Maybe we have been there too much and it's time for a change if we're running out of ideas?!
Don't forget Weymouth (well Portland) is the Olympic sailing centre this summer, you may want to consider an alternative location unless you like crowds!
How could I forget?! All the road work that's been done over the past couple of years. It's probably going to be well busy so may avoid it during that time. We always go every year to the sea food festival they have, part of the Spirit of the Sea festival in July. That is really good but extremely busy! Needless to say we end up carrying our dog through the crowds most of the time. Thank goodness she's a Jack Russell!
East Fleet is a great site and we've been there several times.
If you like gardens go to Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens (near Abbotsbury Swannery). We've taken our 2 dogs there as they permit dogs.
If you need to kennel yours for a day or so then there is a good kennel nearby but the name escapes me.... it may be mentioned on East Fleet's website.

April: Tucker's Grave nr Radstock
Early-Mid May: The Cowal Peninsula + Isle of Bute
Have you tried walking/cycling the Rodwell Trail ? (The route of the old railway line.)
It has fabulous Coastal Scenery and is not too far from where you will be camping.
(assuming you have transport)
One end starts at Ferrybridge in Wyke Regis (The bridge before the long beach road to Isle of Portland) and is a straight and level route into Weymouth Town. Follow the route/cycle route further round and it leads onto the Swannery. There are several joining points along the 3 mile ish route so you don't have to walk the full length in one go. Watering hole/toilets at Old Sandsfoot Castle and gardens (free entry)
Another interesting scenic doggy circular walk that holiday makers might miss is around the Nothe Fort area and gardens which leads onto an old stone pier and back alongside the harbour.into Brewers Quay. (Free Parking at end of Bincleves Road, if interested ) Watering holes along this route.
Top of Portland has many quarry walks and a Sculpture Park, Try finding a rock stack called Nickodemus's Knob. (Take binoculars, plenty of view points.) also not forgetting Portland Bill and the 3 lighthouses and another rock stack 'Pulpit Rock.
why not try parkdean's site at west bay ,dogs allowed ,a literal two minute walk to the beach ,i,ve been going there for 40 years and this year is the first we will miss and thats due to the olympics .lovely clean ,well kept site with lots to do ,you can park your car up and walk for miles in three directions ,don't try the fourth direction its a long walk to france
Thank you for the suggestions! Will give them a good look and a little bit of research is due this week. We are off down to Weymouth this weekend, not in a tent though!
Thank you. Apparently the country needs rain-- it can rain all it likes, just hopefully not when we're away! Can cope with wind and a bit of cold but when it's wet too, with a couple of dogs, it's not a good mix! Mud everywhere
How about all the forest areas? Head toward Ferndown/Ringwood and you will find West Moors country park (google it, sure it has a website). Also tons of campsites around there and you will never do the same walk twice!
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
