It's getting a bit darker now and I'm looking for a decent set of lights for my bike. It's mostly used on quiet, unlit country roads, so I need something to see where I'm going and amke sure that people see me. There are too many idiots around.
Anyone got any recommendations? up to around £50 for a set.
Some of the Catseye sets look OK, but I've got little first hand experience of them.

I'm tired of reality, so I'm off to look for a good fantasy.
There are so many to choose from..........have a look on wiggle,or even chain reaction cycles, both excellent sites with good prices and quick delivery,I use wiggle quite a lot and am very pleased with them.
I bought a Cateye EL610RC last year as a front light for my road bike. It has three settings (bright, very bright and flashing) and goes into a road-safe power saving mode when the rechargeable battery is running low. I've used it on unlit roads on Autumn and Winter evenings and not had a problem.
As a rear light, I would swear by the Cateye TL-LD1100 which I've owned for five years now. It has two pairs each of 5 bright LEDs which can be set to be permanently on, flashing or 'ripple' mode. The clamp for that light is poor but I now have it cable-tied to my saddle bag. I would honestly say that the light is bright enough to encourage motorists to keep well clear.

Another vote for Cateye.
You can buy a front and rear together for around £40.
I've had mine for a few years and use them each day in the winter months.
Used to use CatEye lights, but for the last couple of years have been running SMART RL1 rear, probably the brightest rear light in the world, so I have two of them mounted to my rear rack. They are rated at 1watt so around 100 Lumens, the also do a .5watt version 50 lumens which has a longer run time, both use two AAA batteries.
For the front I use a SMART Egg White light, 2watt or 200 Lumens, very bright compact light running of two AA batteries, they also do a 1watt version that has a longer run time.
Have just bought some knog frogs, as a sort of summer light...ever so bright, using around sunset and in rain. Would defro consider their main light sets based on these smaller ones.
