Just bought a Navigator 3 inflatable boat and need somewhere to test it. I do plan to get a motor but until then I don't really want to take it onto open water i.e. the sea or anywhere with strong currents.

I live in Wiltshire and am willing to drive approx 90 mins.

Can anyone suggest somewhere suitable, preferably dog friendly as the wife will be looking after our 2 hounds whilst I'm on the water.

Cheers

What about the Kennet and Avon Canal? At least the water won't be fast flowing or rough

I have been thinking about it but not sure what would be the best place to launch from.

Wondering if Devizes or Bradford-upon-Avon would be best?

We've got a creek down near us that everyone uses for 'calm' and testing new water toys! It's very shallow too.

But it's right on the edge of your 90 minutes, assuming no traffic & a following wind! (Salisbury's about an hour if that helps!)

Look up 'Stoke Lake, or Alver Creek'.

Bear in mind if you use a canal you probably *should* have a licence. I'm not in England and don't paddle canals, so have no idea how often they are checked (most likely, I suspect, at/near locks). Membership of Canoe England includes licence for most English canals.
