We are planning a trip to the Dordogne in August.

I am planning on taking some standard waggler and feeder coarse tackle, and I were wondering if anybody can give me any advice on where to fish, what bait and what species I am likely to encounter.

Im not planning to spend all the holiday fishing and the site we are hoping to travel to is on the river its self.

I would also appreciate any hint and tips.

I would phone the site and ask the owner(s) If he had any Idea what species are in the river...Its a fair bet there will be pike in there....And where you get pike there will be bait fish of some description ie Roach..Bream etc etc...

Carp fishing is big business in France(mostly lakes) but there could well be some in the river as well...I would beef up my line to 18lbs or so on at least one of my feeder rods...Invest in one or two carp feeder rigs and give it a go hard on the bottom with either Carp Boillies/Sweetcorn/Prawn on the hook...Or even the humble earthworm as bait....Would advise taking a ground bait of some description with you as well...With some additives in it..

For the Roach/Bream etc on the float...I would suggest 6lb main line on the reel with a hook link about 18ins long anywhere between 1 1/2lbs to 3lbs breaking strain...Any thing big comes along you can change to 6lbs straight through...Size 12 16 18 hooks with maggot/bread/sweetcorn/paste as bait.. Fish about two rod lengths out(further if you spot fish rising) feed maggots (5-6 at a time) little and often to get them feeding....Good Luck and tight lines...

Should state I have never Fished in France...Just suggesting some things that work here in Britain...

Jelboy.
