We have a tourer on a seasonal pitch on Anglesey near to Bennlech.
I am looking for some good spots to fish on Anglesey (other than Moelfre) or on the mainland with my 8 year old son.
I am a total novice but we did a little last yeard at Moelfre and really enjoyed it.
Go past the Benllech arms (on your right) about 300 metres, you will come to a campsite known locally as John Hewitts fields, it's called 'Golden sunset', you probably know it. I don't know if you'll have to pay but on the tent site there is access to a cracking, safe, easy to reach rock platform which is ideal for 'Mackie bashing'.
Dont forget your life Jackets! there are some lovely sea fishing marks around Anglesey, but they can be deceptively slippery under foot from the algae and seaweed that grows on them, even on dry days. You can pick up life jackets fairly cheaply in chandelery shops, and always better to be safe rather than sorry, especially with a youngster in tow.
Try the World Seafishing Forum for plenty of local knowledge regarding good fishing marks around the Uk and beyond, they are also a wealth of advice and tips for novices, some will even invite you to a 'meet' where they will happily share their knowledge with you.
I used to be a member until I sold up my rods and tackle to a friend last year, as im now too disabled to manage to carry on the hobby sadly. I used to enjoy regular fishing trips with my family out of Bridlington Harbour on the skippered fishing boat Ocean Crusader, a top skipper who really knew his stuff and we regularly used to return with a good catch of fish to fill the freezer!

hi romany girl. first may i say how sorry i am to read of you health problem. i don't know exactly what it is. but. if you have a car. then fishing from a fish quay may be the solution to continue fishing. unless the problem is your hands. if you ever get he chance to come up north. at north shields fish quay. just at the end. the is a small car park and toilets there. it is only a short walk to quayside where you can fish. all flat as well. but getting down to the quayside is a steep hill. there are a few fresh fish shops and the usual chippies. ( and always yummy ) and one really nice pub called the porthole. wheelchair friendly as well.( no idiots allowed in.always nice people) i am bearing in mind the distance you have to travel. but i am thinking in the way of a holiday up this way. if you would like to visit. anything you want to know. i will try to find out for you.. and a camp site in whitley bay. about 15 mins drive away. wishing you good health. brian
Moelfre IMO is best for mackerel on Angelsey. I fished for years off Treaddur beach, and caught little but dog fish.
Ravenspoint, in Treaddur, is a good mark off the rocks, but quite dangerous I think, if memory serves me correctly. (It is ten years plus since I've been fishing at Treaddur). I have fished for mackerel from Moelfre a couple of years ago, easy fishing and taste lovely on the BBQ.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
