we are staying at holmsley in the new forest at the end of may, what things are there to do near there for children mainly(aged 10), but anything that will keep us all occupied, bearing in mind we will have dogs with us too.

Beaulieu is a great day out. I don't think you can take the dog into the museum but I have a feeling there is somewhere they can be safely left.

Moors Valley Park, Bolderwood, Reptile Centre are all great, plus there is the whole forest to explore for free.

Have a look at the
New Forest official site for ideas. There is even a section for dog owners so you can see which places you can go to.

I wondered about the reptile centre, but couldn't see anywhere whether you can take dogs. I'll give them a ring. We'll definitely be doing lots of walks and exploring.

If it's a bad wet and windy day, stick the kids on the I.o.Wight ferry and take the dogs for a walk.

Barton on Sea is good for Fossil hunting
Bucklers Hard is a great day out
Hurst Castle and Spit is a must!
Lepe Country Park
Highcliffe Castle - beautiful views
Christchurch Castle
Exbury Gardens
Longdown Farm
New Forest Wildlife Park
Boltons Bench
Knightwood Oak - Tree believed to be 600 years old
Libertys Owl, Raptor & Reptile Centre
New Forest Tour
Ringwood Town and Country Experience
Christchurch Castle

We went last June for the first time and these were the places I found looking on the web, at the time we didn't have a dog so you'd have to check their websites, you should be able to find the websites quite easily, but if you can go to Hurst Castle, we all thoroughly enjoyed it, walking along the spit in was a challenge!

New Forest Wildlife Park

Not massive, but its a good afternoon out. They have a good selection of animals that you wouldn't normally see and a fab kiddies play area! Just watch out for the deer - they love to nibble anything that's mouth sized :)

Take care, dogs have died in certain areas after being walked in the forest. Please google for latest advice.
