we are buying a gps, hopefully to stop us being lost so much when out walking. We know little about either and wondering which is best for our purposes. we do a lot of walking in the Peaks, Snowdonia etc. Country walking magazine references memory map for their walks so wondering if this i best as we often use the walks they publish
Had the same quandary when I upgraded my old Etrex basic model to a mapping version. You can pay a couple of hundred for a mapping set or,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, you can do what most of us Garmin owners have done and use 'Talky Toaster' maps. They are open source maps and are free if you've got the wherewithal to put them on a card or you can buy a preloaded sd card for £23. These Maps are as good as if not better than OS Maps. Have you tried Bing maps? As an alternative to maps.google? They have the OS maps, the grid references are in longitude / Latitude but is simple to change your handheld GPS to accept these. I haven't tried printing out the maps as I have Anquet.
