hi all - Ive never been to Stonehenge and as we going down that way in a few weeks time with our caravan I wondered if anyone could tell me if there are reasonable paths to the monument so I can get to it on my mobility scooter. My scooter does have large wheels and travels well on grass. Any info would be much appreciated.

Don't think you should have any problems.

Haven't been there for a few years and there has been talk of "improvements" which may or may not have been completed, but I seem to remember there was paved ramp access from the car park to the tunnel, and from the tunnel up to the actual monument site.

Allow plenty of time. The new visitor centre is farther away than the old one was. You'll enjoy it.

Hello: I was there just a couple of months ago. (Prior to that, I had been there in 1973; if I remember correctly, visitors were permitted to actually touch the stones at that time.) I have a very bad knee and had no difficulties with any of the facilities; the paths are very even and well-maintained. There are shuttles that run frequently between the monument and the visitors' center; the access to them is very easy. Although it wasn't terribly crowded on the day I visited in mid-March, I believe that there's a separate line (queue) to the shuttles for those with mobility issues so that they won't have to wait as long and can get comfortably situated before others board. Enjoy your trip!

Until next time...happy camping!

For anyone wanting some more recent information on travelling to stonehenge with a mobility scooter, then here is my experience. I was there last week, I travelled through www.comparestonehengetours.com and took my mobility scooter.

It is level access from the coach/car park to the visitor centre. You need to be aware that the visitor centre is 1.5 miles from the actual stones. You can go on your scooter along the road to the stones if you wish - its all flat, or you can actually get on the bus (every 10 minutes or so) - level access onto and off. And then there is a path way to and around the stones - it really is very accessible and you have no need to even touch grass.

It really is one of the easiest places I have seen for wheelchair access or mobility scooters.
