Latest Press Release below from Bailey

---------------------

Further to our recent bulletin on this subject we are taking this opportunity to update you with our findings so far.

Using data collected on the incidents to date we can confirm that no units manufactured before w/c 22/11/10 (Build 149) have been affected by this issue and neither have any Unicorn Barcelona or Seville models. As a result we no longer consider these particular caravans to be at risk - reducing the potential number of units affected from 3,356 to 1,202.

The examination of the units which have experienced this failure remains on-going and whilst we have been able to eliminate a number of factors the initial inspections have not as yet revealed the root cause of the problem.

In addition to working closely with our supplier partners and consultation with VOSA we have also employed the services of a third-party crash inspection expert to assist us with this process. We have also purchased back an appropriate caravan in order to try to simulate the sequence of events (on a rolling road) that have lead to a failure of this type.

Until the cause of the wheel detachments can be clarified our advice remains to reiterate the importance of torquing the wheel bolts of a caravan in accordance with the guidelines laid down in the Owners Manual and NCC recommended best practise prior to travelling with the vehicle.

The correct torque setting for the Alloys wheels fitted to the current Unicorn range is: 110 Nm (81 Ft/lbs).

The wheel bolts should be tightened in sequence (each opposite fixing in succession) using a calibrated torque wrench. Please advise them not use a corner steady brace or an electric power wrench as it as dangerous to over tighten as to under tighten the bolts. As per the instructions in the manual this should be done before every journey made with the caravan.

If customers are unable to carry out this task they should take their caravan to their nearest Approved Bailey Retailer or Service Centre, full details of which can be found on our website for it to be done.

In order not to inconvenience the owners of the caravans that have been affected so far by this issue Bailey is currently carrying out the necessary repairs to their vehicles free of charge until further notice. It should be noted that this is work is being undertaken without prejudice and as a commercial gesture of goodwill.

Details of any appropriate follow-up action required will be made available in due course. Should customers have any queries in this regard they should contact either their supplying retailer or the Bailey Customer Helpline

Cheers  Ratty
