I am looking to buy a static this year. It will more likely than not be a 32 x 12 model. I am having trouble finding any sites that list their pitch prices online. I know I can ring around but at the moment I am just researching online so if anyone knows a useful site which has a price guide or something similar for static parks in the Scarborough/Filey and surrounding areas that would be very helpful. I have seen some preowned caravans I like on big sites like Park and Haven but I am thinking their annual fees are prob circa £4000 with all the facilities ... but that is just a guess.
around Clacton on sea its close to the 4/5k per year, that's why we have ours in france at less than 2k per year BUT we don't get to use it every weekend, we only spend 2 months in it, but the outlaws also use it for around 3 months, so it works out worthwhile, and that's what you need to consider. how much you will use it against the initial cost, depreciation and use.
a friend of ours had theirs transported from the Yorkshire coast to the site we are on in france after weighing up their options, they only use their van for just over 2 months per year, but they think its worth it - it works out at around £250 per week for their family holidays in france, where the weather is a 'little better', according to them LOL !!
Thanks for reply. I want to use it quite a bit as have children and dogs so it has to be in the UK. I am looking at renting it out during five of the six week holidays via a company my friend uses who also has a static in the Filey area. Finding out pitch fees is a bit of a nightmare and finding a site that lets you take on a caravan you have bought from a dealer is a nightmare too! So much to look into.
don't buy anything until you have a site, it will be unlikely that anywhere will take it, unless you pay them a large fee of course. those that do take them normally get their money back further down the line when you try and sell or stipulate a time limit/age of the vans allowed on site.
so, you might be better off biting the bullet and buying one already sited.
Thanks again. There certainly is a lot to consider. I have contacted a dealer who seems to list sites that take vans that he sells so I am waiting to see what he has to say. I may well bite the bullet and get one on site and then go down the letting route.
there is a lot to consider!!! a lot of people have lost a lot of money but similarly prob many more people are very happy with what they have, do as youre doing, ask questions, do your research - those who tend to lose money do so because their long terms plans change into short term plans, buying new and then having to sell can result in a major loss, especially when you have to sell back to or through the site!
If you intend to rent it out take into account the extra costs involved, ie annual gas/electrical safety checks , commercial insurance, cost of gas and electricity when being rented out as renters expect this to be included

When you find a site that you think is suitable check that they will allow you to have more than one dog, many sites only allow one dog per van.
As has been said, it's doubtful you will find any site prepared to take you with a van bought from a dealer. They want to make money on the sale of the van to you, on the yearly charges and again when they force you to sell it back to them, once it has gone over their stipulated age limit (often for a fraction of its actual worth).
Also you need to be careful if you are relying on the income from potential renters to pay for the ground rent. Renters don't always look after the vans very well and you need to factor in the cost of repairs, cleaning etc.
My family's experience of owning static caravans is not good. You are at the mercy of the site owners as the van is no good to anyone if you have nowhere to put it and they know it. It can often turn out to be a very costly venture and I for one wouldn't recommend buying one, full stop, unless you have an endless supply of cash you want to fritter away.
Have you considered a large tourer on a seasonal pitch instead? If you don't like the site for any reason, or the cost gets too much, you can always move on.
We have ours in France too. Site fees have risen to €1700 this year, but there are 2 swimming pools, a bar, a library, table tennis, a park for the kids & of course, a large boules pitch.
The downside,as already mentioned, is that we can't nip over for a weekend. However, we do a month in summer & a week in October, May & at Easter. (Evil mother also makes stroppy teens speech French, Mwahahahahaa! )
Also, when we were looking, we went for a week to look at sites in our target area, we took the tent & camped on 1 of them!
In the UK, you could go for a weekend & stay & have a good look at the sites & get a feel for them. Most sites have lists of used mobiles for sale & if they key hold could take you for a look round.
Give all vans a good check over- on the roof & get underneath too! As well as the boiler, electrics & other, "usuals".
Good luck!

Hi, I am considering buying a used static caravan and looking to site it at a site which will accept it anywhere in Kent, I know this is difficult to find but anyone know of sites preferably open 10/11 months of the year like this?
Thanks!
