Hi, we're looking for two neighbouring pitches for privately owned static caravans for permanent residential use. One would be a 3-bedroom static for our family and the other a 1/2-bedroom for my mum.
We're willing to travel up to around an hour from Dover for the right place. We have children and multiple dogs, so we're looking for somewhere family-friendly with no age restriction and where multiple dogs are permitted.
We're specifically looking for a site/landowner who allows privately owned statics to be brought onto their pitches rather than requiring us to purchase a caravan from the site.
If anyone knows of any small private residential sites, landowners or parks that might consider this arrangement, we'd be incredibly grateful for any suggestions or contacts. We're struggling to find these smaller sites through normal searches.
Thank you ??
Sad to say, I really doubt that what you want will be possible.
It is hard enough to find leisure sites that will allow bring-ons, and finding a site that has planning permission and licence for permanent residential use and also allows bring-ons is pretty much impossible.
Your other problems are children - a majority of residential sites are 45plus - and multiple dogs, as again a majority of sites have limits on pets.
You could try advertising to see if any farmers/landowners are able to help - again, for permanent independent residential use you will need somewhere that already has planning permission for the land to be used as such - or somewhere with a landowner prepared to ignore the regulations (they do exist).
I wish you luck, but I am doubtful that you will find what you want.
You could be better forgetting about bringing your own static and looking for somewhere that has used units for sale.
Thanks for your reply :) yes its tricky finding somewhere hopefully not impossible my choices are find sonewhere or be homeless for the second time in 2 years. unfortunately my budget is very tight so site sale is an unlikely option
I hesitate to suggest this, as it is something I have always said is very risky - but when the alternatives could be worse, may be worth thinking.
(a) Do a general search for static sites that allow bring-ons (there are a few) and then contact each site directly to find out if they have suitable pitches etc. These will almost certainly be leisure sites, not residential, but many are now open for 12 months with no restrictions on how long you can stay there. General enquiries about "how long can I stay?" will give you a feel as to whether the site is one who deters full-timers, or one who pretends not to know people are living on site.
As said, it is very risky as you will not have any security of tenure and if the council cracks down on the site or (more likely) the site gets sold you may end being being told to either prove you have a "proper" address elsewhere or vamoose. Having said that, there are definitely holiday sites around the country with people living full time and the site operators turning a blind eye. The multiple dogs may still be a problem.
(b) Consider trying to find a privately operated Traveller site with empty pitches; I don't mean the encampments that spring up on playing fields, I mean the existing sites with hard standing for statics and full residential use.
In theory, you must have ties to the travelling community to live there, and a council run site will ask a lot of questions to make sure, but a privately owned site may not be so diligent. Traveller sites are, in many ways, similar to residential parks with the biggest difference that dogs and children are expected to live there. The risk here is similar to living on a holiday park, if somebody checks and discovers you have no Traveller links you may have to leave.
I wish you a great deal of luck Ginge26, it must be terrible being made homeless, I can't imagine it. However, like 22seaside I don't hold out a lot of hope. Residential (park home) sites can be very expensive and come with many conditions, especially regarding children and pets, and they almost always expect you to buy from them.
Living on a holiday park is very risky, as has been explained, and finding one that allowed it or turned a blind eye, as well as allowing you to bring on your own units is highly unlikely. Particularly in any specific area. Be very, very wary of buying an unsited static, they are virtually worthless for this very reason. Very few sites anywhere in Britain will accept them.
Thank you for all your replies i have been reading them and taking note of the information. i do have some seemingly positive leads to chase so fingers crossed ill have a positive update next week. Its honestly so shocking if councils etc could help with things like this the housing crisis could be heavily helped yet it seems near impossible. The goal of a static was stability yet its caused more stress than anything lol. Unfortunately im not well off enough to own a brick and mortar house yet all i want is stability. I have an 8 year old daughter and through circumstances similar to what we are facing now in her short life shes had 8 addresses and been deemed legally homeless previous to this so i was trying to find a permanent solution to a recurring problem not realising how difficult it would be to find somewhere to put a static. Its more frustrating that next year i'll be in the position to buy land for my static home its just that we need the static before hand its becoming so difficult.
Again thank you for your replies.
I will keep you updated
Just a thought, have you considered renting a static for a few months if it's only temporary?
If you will have your own land next year, it would be a good idea to find out first if you need, and can get, planning permission for a static that would be for residential use. That could be a potential problem. Whatever you do, don't buy an unsited static unless you already have somewhere to put it and have obtained planning permission to site it there, or you could lose a lot of money.
