Evening all and merry Christmas. I'm sure its been asked loads of times but I cant find anything. I'm looking at an older static and I need a site to put it. I'm looking at around 1.5 hours from Selby (Near York) that isn't to fussed with the age of the van. Anyone have any suggestions?

Cheers

Hi, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it is extremely rare for any site anywhere in Britain to site a static that they haven't sold. Even a nearly new one. They have it all sewn up between them, which is why there are so many older statics around, often at giveaway prices. Unless you have your own plot of land to put it on, siting it will be virtually impossible I'm afraid.

From what I have seen, most older statics usually end up as "site offices" or in someone's garden as temporary accommodation while they renovate an old house.

if you find a site willing to take your van you have to consider the cost of moving it from one place to another that can work out expensive then there is the resitting then the yearly site fees most times it works out cheaper just to buy from the park as I have already looked in to it. taken everything into account buying van moving it resitting it connecting it and site fees were costing over 7 grand bought one from the holiday park saved myself a lot of cash. hope this helps

Nows the time to look at SITED vans. Site fees are usually payable around now, and people decide to stay or sell and sadly some people have over stretched themselves financially buying a static and site fees. So a lot are forced to sell. The for sale is usually open to offers and again sadly some owners need to just get out so take a lot less than the asking price. As for siting an offsite purchased van, as others have said you have virtually no chance of finding a site to take it. We would all be doing it if it was simple, as off site vans are so cheap to buy.

I have been tempted myself before now, as I have seen decent looking statics go for ridiculous prices on ebay. Once when I was looking at a similar thread to this I decided to take a look on ebay, just out of curiosity, to see what they were fetching. Quite by coincidence there was one with only about 15 minutes to run, so I decided to wait and see what it went for. I couldn't believe what I was seeing, as it went for £50!!

I must admit that once I found out all the drawbacks, I went right off the idea of owning a static. It's an absolute money-pit, and the site owners have you over a barrel.
