Hi, We're thinking about buying a used Static and would appreciate any advice. I'm interested in a Static on a site I really liked and they don't have a policy on the life of a van. Is there a guide to prices?
Thanks

Not sure about a price guide, although I don't think there is one.

However, I would urge you to be very careful, especially if this static is more than a few years old. Often what happens is that sites change hands and when they do it is extremely difficult, if not impossible, to hold the new owners to the original agreement. There are many stories about people buying statics more than 10 years old on sites that have no age restrictions, then the site gets sold and the new owners want to "upgrade" and issue eviction notices to all the owners of statics over 10 years old. I'm not saying this will happen to your site, but it is as well to know that it has happened many times before. Statics are a real gamble, and the site owners hold all the aces.

Another thing to be aware of, if you are not already, is that few if any sites will accept a static that they haven't sold, and a static without a site is virtually worthless.

Kay-e, Colin21 is making a good point.
Have a scroll through this Statics forum & read some of the other threads. There’s advice there about contracts & legal aspects, about servicing & many other things to be aware of.
Don’t be put off! Just go in eyes open. Then enjoy your van, if it’s the right one for you.

Some very good advice for you already above.
Not having a policy on the life of a van suggests an annual contract, which means that they (the park) can decide each year whether or not your static can stay, and if so, on which terms. The park would not even need to change hands for you to be told that your contract will not be renewed, or that if renewed the terms and price will be substantially different..
As far as price goes - an acceptable price is the price you are willing to pay. Most of the value of a static is where it is, not what it is.
I agree with the other recommendations to carry out a lot of research - a static and the running costs are not cheap. There are thousands of very happy holiday static owners, and there are also hundreds of very unhappy holiday static owners. The main difference between the two comes down to research beforehand.

Hi,
It does seem to be a bit of a minefield. The van is being sold by the park, I was told it is a van they have bought back. I should have asked what happens when it's too old to be useful, again there seems to be varied opinions about the life of a van.
Thanks for your replies.
