Hi Andy, whatever you do DON'T buy a static caravan without first having obtained a site for it. Very few, if any will accept and site statics that they haven't sold, and that is anywhere in Britain. This doesn't apply abroad, as I believe some European sites are much more open than they are in Britain.
By far the best option in Britain is to find a site that you like and buy from the site owners. They have it all well sewn up between them.
Welcome Andy.
Have a look HERE
There are many pitfalls with static site, have a read of some threads on the link above.
DO NOT buy a second hand static unless you have a guaranteed site/pitch.
------------- I came into this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left.
As above, NEVER buy a static without having a pitch for it.
Statics sold off-site are cheap for a reason. Most of the value is where it is, not what it is.
Not only do you have to find somewhere to put it (which is close to impossible in the UK) you have to arrange for transport, siting, connection, commissioning, none of which are cheap, and the park will possibly insist on their own siting, connection and commissioning crew carrying out the work at your expense.
You also have to factor in not just finding a pitch, but finding somewhere that is :
(a) suitable (no good having a static so far from home you can hardly ever get there)
(b) with a pitch fee you can afford (the area you want is not cheap).
(c) with terms and conditions that you are happy to accept.
Find a park you like first, then ask them if they accept bring-ons, and if not (almost certainly the case) what they have for sale.
The order of importance is, area, park, position on the park, and finally the static itself.
+++++
The above is all on the assumption that you want a holiday park.
If you want a residential park, then it really will be impossible to find anywhere to put your own static on - it will have to be either a ready sited park home, or an empty pitch and buying a new home via the park operator.
ADDED:
Have you considered a seasonal touring site (one where you have your own touring caravan, but site it for the whole season in the same place?)
A day of all things motorhome and campervan. The show is held both in the main indoor arena and across the grounds. Catering, hot drinks and food options are available. Easy access to the site and free parking included. Win one of five pairs of day tickets
