Just wondering if anyone on here lives in a static caravan .
We've just visited a beautiful site and I was wondering about the pros and cons of downsizing and living in a static all year round, couldn't do it yet with the children but it looks a pretty good life style to me.
we have some friends who have just done this and are very happy with it and enjoy the life style.in lancs too.they also bought a touring caravan as well so have the best of both worlds and money in the bank for a rainy day.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
A close friend of ours manages a large site on the East Yorkshire coast. They are licensed for residents 10 months of the year. That gives them more control than if it was a fully residential site. They control the price of all the utilities and insist that the static be changed when it is ten years old so as to maintain their high standards. They have first refusal should an owner decide to sell. They also limit the size and layout of the decking verandas as well as storage sheds that the owners require. They even insist that the steps you need to access your van is brick built and flagged by their own staff for you.The site really has the static owners over a barrel. Initially it might be seen as a cheaper option than bricks and mortar but these vans cost around about £30,000.The site rent is over £1000 per year, and your property is depreciating at an alarming rate and as I’ve said it has to be changed after only ten years.
Our friend says the rules they lay down and the methods they use are common across the industry. His advice is do your research.
Good luck whatever you decide to do.

------------- Treat the earth well. It was not given to you by your parents. It was loaned to you by your children.
We spent quite a time looking very seriously at residential sites for our retirement plans. We wanted a live aboard narrowboat, a touring van and a residential sited van to give us max flexibility for an active retirement. We got very put off residential sites mainly because although current management may have been OK there were no safeguards for the future and you seemed at the total mercy of the owners including what price you would get when you come to sell. Still in a house that is too big, still wondering what to do.....................but res. sites are ruled out so I guess that's progress!
