Hi just wondering if anyone has been to Cote Ghyll in North Yorks and has any suggestions for a pitch number to get the best of the sunshine. We have a tunnel tent with the opening at the end rather than the middle

cote ghyll is down in a valley surrounded by trees, your going to be lucky to see much of any sun if at all. the only real area that did get it was around the reception

Not been but Google has plenty of photos submitted by people who’ve stayed there & an aerial photo; difficult to relate them to a site layout plus your tent configuration.
And time of year may make a difference - we all know sites that are shaded when the sun is low but ok in the height of summer.

Not a site I know, but it appears from Google Satellite view to be a bit of a linear site running N-S and in a shallow valley with mature trees around, so guessing early morning and late evening sun are absolutely excluded from all pitches.

Probably morning to afternoon sun hitting most pitches unless directly behind a tree!

Couple of thoughts, I've never wanted a tent to be in direct sunlight, they get impossibly hot and unusable during the day (you can't even dash in and out without roasting!), if you've got a fridge/coolbox in it, it's gonna struggle with an inside tent ambient of around 40C if not more!

…. and this is Yorkshire! My ventures into Yorkshire over a few decades have never been noted for seeing a lot of sun! Now rain, I can vouch for it being one of the wettest parts of the country I've ever visited (on every occasion!), and I visit the West Country and Lake District a lot, which are not noted for being exactly parched areas! - I go to them to dry out after Yorkshire!!!! Even fiercely (County) patriotic/territorial friends who come from and live in Yorkshire have to concede it's not the sunniest or driest part of the UK! So planning for sun may be a vain quest!

And of course, do you get a say on which pitch you get, some sites let you choose, many allocate them upon booking, or upon arrival, as THEY see fit. Often to do with fitting your tent to a suitable sized pitch! - they wouldn't want a two berth occupying an 8 berth sized pitch and denying them the extra income from being able to accommodate a larger party, so they decide!
