Whatever happened to All Season Pitch (AWP) that was bee's knees over 10 years ago?

Back at Fforest Fields near Builth Wells in Mid Wales and I stayed on an AWP back in 2013.

Don't seem to have them anymore, covered up by small gravel and not the smaller pea gravels.

Less demand through the years with less tenters requesting for them perhaps, and more demands for handstanding pitches for motorhomes and campervans?

I think AWP stands for All Weather Pitch, but that’s an aside. Pea gravel itself is a bit more expensive, and the construction of the pitch (to ensure it never gets waterlogged) might be a bit more complicated (time is money). That make-up would still be present below the gravel now though, even if it’s more angular than pea gravel.
But I’m just throwing ideas into the pot. We always preferred to be on grass when we used a tent.

We only ever use grass pitches and usually book last-minute, so if the weather's bad we just go another time. One of the advantages of being retired. We always prefer sites where we can pitch how we like so hard-standings aren't really suitable. Only time we have ever used one was when we had no option as we were going to a site that didn't used to have them but when we went back many years later that was all they had.

I am likely to book grass with EHU going forward, as I have great difficulties in pitching on hardstanding pitches using various rock pegs and an electric drill.

Really fed up with it to be honest, especially in June 2026 in Europe when it was so hot!

I choose hardstanding to date to avoid soggy/muddy grass when it rains.

However, I have started to use a breathable carpet on its own which I bought for use with the canopy type awning. It is also nicer underfoot with the carpet.

Yes to pea gravel being more expensive and difficult to get hold of according to the staff at Fforest Fields.
