Hi all, looking for any recommendations. Never needed to ask before as search/google usually does the trick, but I'm struggling this time!
Looking for a nice caravan site that has fully serviced pitches, somewhere within 30 minute drive of Pwllheli.
I know there's a Haven site, which I'd consider a last resort (experienced one like that in Filey - never again...) unless you can convince me otherwise!
We do like a well kept/landscaped site (rather than just a field or a "carpark"), nicely spaced pitches - no bar/clubhouse, somewhere that accepts dogs - and our 14 year old son!
No preference on grass/hard standing.
For such a popular area, there seems to be a lack of decent sites there.
We are in the CAMC and CCC so CL's or CS's are an option too, although struggling with those too!
Hope someone has some little gems we've missed. Thanks!
Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
Hi, yes I I've searched over the entire Llyn peninsula, but despite the nice descriptions, when you look at the individual sites they're always a let down! Sloping fields, no serviced pitches, or just a ramshackle field with groups of tents together.
Had too many bad experiences of pitching the caravan in the same field as tents - it seems many campers (not all obviously) think their tents are made of soundproof material, or that an 11pm noise curfew doesn't apply to them for some reason.

Have you looked a bit further away from that hotspot corner? We have been past Tyddyn Llwyn in Porthmadog which looked a nice place. Would Caernarfon be too far at just over 30 mins away? a couple nice sites there: Is Helen, not sure on facilities but good reviews and Hendy Farm (been several times) grey water/water/EHU on pitch, nice walk into town.

That’s the reason to read the first page of reviews for sites with 9 or 10 stars (maybe 8), discount the rest.
And tick on ‘serviced pitches’ in the Site Search, as that’s obviously important to you. (And Adult Only or No Dogs or whatever else you want.)
And don’t choose a site that takes tents - though frankly we’ve been kept awake by big groups sitting outside their caravans or MHs, so it’s no guarantee of peace & quiet.
I did all that and looked at each result, reviews etc but when you head over to the sites own website, it can differ from what our search facility tells you, such as Serviced pitches - some of the sites don't have them, or they are only for seasonal pitches etc.
Haven in Pwllheli is a huge site and although I'd consider it with teenagers I much prefer Haven at Porthmadog - Greenacres.
Unlike many Haven sites, the touring section is right by the entertainment building but far enough away to not hear anything. The plots are a good size and all serviced and the warden is always about making sure everything is ok.
It's right on black rock sands and about 5 mins drive from Porthmadog itself.
We have also stayed at Tyddyn Llwyn but we prefer Greenacres as our son loves to swim and we enjoy the entertainment, having said that Tyddyn Llwyn is a lovely site too.
Porthmadog isn't that far from Pwllheli or even Abersoch - it's a beautiful part of the world.
I am interested in this discussion as I am thinking about Wales in September but it seems to be the devils own job to find sites actually near places or with good access to public transport. Most sites seem to be in the middle of nowhere.
There are, or used to be, several CLs near Abersoch. I'm sure there must be larger sites too. Update there are 29 caravan sites within 5 miles of Abersoch.

If you're not set on one particular area David, you could try Anglesey. Good rail link from Chester, Bangor through to Holyhead and plenty of buses around the island.
We didn't enjoy anglesey any where near as much as Porthmadog, simply because there is very little to do on anglesey for teenagers - we spent all week crossing the menai bridge back to the mainland
A day of all things motorhome and campervan. The show is held both in the main indoor arena and across the grounds. Catering, hot drinks and food options are available. Easy access to the site and free parking included. Win one of five pairs of day tickets
