Just tried to book 4 nights away in Derbyshire for Easter, nearly £200! We started camping around 2005 and it used to be a cheap holiday but prices seem to have gone up stupidly in the mid 2010's when camping became trendy. It's now not much cheaper then staying in a Holiday Inn!
Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
Shop around a bit more! Yes, it has gone up but there are still plenty of sites for less than £50 per night. I will look one up and get back with the details.
Thomaston Farm, near the Culzean CCC site, Ayrshire. Certificated £15 for EHU, views & a loo - all we need.
I won’t pay £50 pn. Sites charge what the market will pay, so I take my custom elsewhere.
Nor will I pay £50 a night on a campsite! Just half of that is my absolute limit and I usually look to pay less. All we are doing in reality is renting a small patch of ground so when the price of that starts getting close to hotel prices it's crazy. At least in a hotel you get heating or air-con, a decent sized bed, your own bathroom, and possibly meals too. Someone else is responsible for washing any bed linen you use, and for cleaning the room. There really is no comparison between that and temporarily renting a patch of grass and having to fetch water, empty toilet waste, and do all your own cleaning, so there shouldn't be any comparison between the prices either.
We've booked 5 sites so far starting in May (4n each time) and they range from £162 (moment of madness), £92, £120, £104 and £112. They do actually average only £29.50pn which isn't too bad overall. They all have EHU. Cheaper than 2 holidays in Greece each year which we used to do
Perhaps we need a section for suggested 'cheaper' sites.
I have looked at numerous campsites in Derbyshire myself over the past few years but eventually gave up on the idea merely because they were all too expensive whatever time of year it is. The county maybe a walker's paradise but if people are prepared to continuously pay the high pitch prices then the landowners consider that campers are happy to pay it without any objection. Maybe if all the campers refused to pay these prices then they would have no alternative but to reduce their prices respectively or go out of business. Whilst campers are prepared to continue to pay high prices then the landowners will just continue earning extortionate profits.
Our backyard...There are plenty of CS and CL sites in Derbyshire, but have you looked to be a bit further out aswell away from the 'hotspots'? It all depends on what you want from a site, if you have kids and want plenty for them to do, then sites will be dear if you want all those facilities, if you just want a space to pitch up then there are reasonable ones to be found.
We usually go a bit further out, as sites away from the main touristy areas tend to be quieter and cheaper which is exactly what we like. Some people like a bar on site, but that would be one to avoid for us as such sites tend to be noisier. If we want a drink or a meal we don't mind going offsite for it.

and for the same dates for the average family of 2 adults and 2 kids that price jumps to £263! i can book a room at south milford premiere inn for the same dates for the same price! and cheaper for me to get there as not towing and i dont have to mess around making beds or putting awnings up
Why can't we give the OP a chance to come back? not all posters sit glued to their device.

That difference in price is because of the way sites charge differently these days to when I first started camping. Back then you paid for a pitch and it was up to you what you put on it, as long as you didn't exceed the number of people your unit was designed for. If it hadn't been for that principle we would probably never have experienced any form of camping, it's what attracted us to the lifestyle. All other holidays charged per person and there were 5 of us and two dogs.
If prices keep on getting closer to hotel rates, we might factor that in when we go away. If there's little difference we might go for the hotel option and get everything done for us.
