We've been to Southern Ireland many times but never been to Belfast. Just reading about it and it seems we could fill a few days easily in and around Belfast. Can anyone recommend a campsite they have been to in a good location for sightseeing? I've looked online but knowing nothing about the area and would like personal recs. Thanks

Too long since I spent time there to advise (one was a ‘niche’ visit with horticulture students, the other involved camping at Ballycastle, a bit far away). But there are UKCS members who’ll be familiar with Belfast as you know - I’ll be interested to see what they say too as Cairnryan is not so far away for us.
Meanwhile, check out https://visitbelfast.com especially https://visitbelfast.com/stay/camping-and-caravans/
This campsite is about seven miles outside Belfast and as name suggests, it's on the Belfast lough shore. There is a cycle path direct to Belfast or in the other direction 7 miles to Carrickfergus. Restaurants, bars and supermarket within a 5 minute walk and the bus stops directly outside the site.
Great base to explore Belfast & Carrickfergus with it's Norman castle and close to either the Belfast or Larne ferries. I would HIGHLY recommend this site, also see the reviews on here (ukcampsite)

If you didn't mind driving, I'd recommend the C&CC site at Delamont, near Downpatrick, about 20 miles from Belfast. Nice walks in Delamont Country park itself, there are good NT houses in the area, Castle Ward and Mount Stewart, and it's close to the Mourne mountains too.
We tried to stay at Loughshore many years ago, missed it as it's on the side of a busy main road. Don't know if access has changed since. We have stayed at Ford Farm CL which is not far from Larne, and at a site whose name escapes me, a few miles north of Larne.

There was a comedy troupe there who used to make the joke about a plane landing at Belfast and the pilot reminding the passengers to put their watches back 50 years!
It's a long time since I was a student at Queens University and I have no intention of going back. However.. If my memory serves me correctly, the city museum and botanic gardens were worth seeing. Also the Ulster folk and transport museum south of the city was well worth a trip.
It probably has changed greatly since I was last there , but Carrickfergus had a castle, and pretty well nothing else.

I'm tired of reality, so I'm off to look for a good fantasy.
