I looked to book Hillhead CAMC site over the weekend, for a couple of nights for New Years Eve.
**£52.10 per night for 2 adults!!!!!**
I didn't bother and booked a Premier Inn instead at £48 per night.
Mind you Hillhead is now showing as fully booked!
Mad prices IMO.

I thought that £24 was a lot, for a CS we are staying at soon. They even have the cheek to add on 10p!
LOL at the 10p!!
I refuse to pay their prices!! Looking at commercial sites for 2023 and may even cancel my membership when it's due in February.

We don't use Club sites, stick to CLs or CSs
Good call! ;-)

There’s a review that’s critical of the same £52 pn fee changed in April this year. I guess Devon is popular & the reviews make the site sound like a big holiday park with bar & eatery, which may or may not suit everyone.
I am sure I read somewhere someone saying that for a serviced pitch at Hillhead in the peak season was just over £60 next year. Having said that we paid £37 a night for a serviced pitch at Seacroft and that was in October (not half term) Perhaps if you only spend a fortnight and a few weekends away each year those prices don't matter so much?

We often use these but don't rule out the club sites (especially the CCC) out of the main season. We've just returned from a weekend at their Windermere site which was just over 21 a night, slightly on the high side for us, but ideal for what we needed at this time of year with easy access, hard standings, 16amp electric, loads of space and excellent dog walking direct from the site.
However, over New Year would be a completely different price, I'm sure!

I would have thought if you only spend a short time away then the cost of the accomodation, as with the cost of travel, represents a far more serious factor.
Those that can go for longer periods have the opportunity to reduce these fixed costs by moving around.

I was thinking of people whose work gets in the way of them getting away more often. For some the cost won't be an issue.

Pubs and other venues would charge an admission fee for NYE, check out the prices for an evening meal on 31 December at some of these venues!
Staff have to give up their opportunity to go out and enjoy themselves etc...
With friends in the hospitality industry, I can understand the need for a price hike for events on NYE due to the long hours and being very demanding.

We stayed at Hillhead in September, booked it several months earlier as it was one of the clubs half price pitch fee mid week. When we arrived we were charged more than I was told when booking the wardens response was well you didn't pay a deposit?
We have cancelled our membership which expired in December but they have still sent us this months magazine (for what it is worth) and today we got the new site directory!
I think they have just go too greedy since COVID due to the increase in demand.
Happy to pay extra for NYE if the staff are getting double or treble pay but all to often they are not and it is just the boss making a profit.
We are staying home this year first time in several years (excluding COVID lost year) Hopefully be getting away more next year but will be looking for cheaper alternatives to CMC
There are plenty of well-reviewed independent sites open for NY, as the UKCS directory shows. Membership of either club does give access to their cheaper 5-unit sites, however - though they won’t have a bar or entertainment.
A day of all things motorhome and campervan. The show is held both in the main indoor arena and across the grounds. Catering, hot drinks and food options are available. Easy access to the site and free parking included. Win one of five pairs of day tickets
