We like to visit England next year. And we were searching for a camping site and found Holiday Resort Unity in Brean Sands. But we were surprised we are not welcome. The reason? We have a caravan of the mark Hobby and the caravans of that mark are not welcome. I explained I have a small one (Hobby 440). But we were not welcome and they told me nothing else than it was in their rules.
Can anyone explain me why in England caravans of the mark Hobby are not welcome? And are there more camping sites with such a rule?
Thank you in advance

Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
Some campsites only accept UK caravans. It is to do with having the doors on the other side - some site owners like caravans to all face the same way, with all the awnings on the same side.
Some site owners don't like Hobby caravans because "travellers" (Roma) often have Hobbys. And site owners don't want to risk having those people on their site.
Hobby in the UK are more commonly used by the 'travelling community' or gypsies and they are not welcome.
The site though is being very narrow minded with you though, shame on them.
Maybe send them a picture of your van and something with your address on, that might be proof enough for them.
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.

There are many other sites, have a look at the Site Search tab, tick the boxes for the facilities that you want or need, and contact some others in the area you want to visit.
I have seen plenty of Hobby caravans (& motorhomes) on sites, with folks like us enjoying their holidays. I'm sorry this particular site has been rude, maybe they've had a bad experience in the past.
Both the two major Clubs will accept German made caravans. What you experienced in the UK is similar to what a lot of UK caravanners experience in France with twin (tag) axle caravans which are often refused at French campsites but like Hobby caravans and campsites in the UK it is not universal. It's just a case of further research.

Although.. we met a lovely couple at Chateau de Chanteloup who had been turned away from a CMC site near Dover for their pre-crossing stopover because they had a Hobby caravan and long wheel base Mitsubishi Shogun. The warden even accused them of being travellers. Luckily they managed to find a site that would take them. Worth checking anywhere by the sound of it!

Try the camping and caravanning club sites they also offer a temporary membership for people from other counties . This can be a little cheaper for you .
Good luck

In years gone by I believe once travellers were allowed on sites , they would refuse to pay the site fees and refuse to leave.
Other caravanners would leave in their droves and word would get around and the site would lose business long term.
It was also a long drawn out legal process to get them moved off the site and costly for the site owners to repair the damage done.
Maybe some site owners have experienced this and banning Hobby vans etc is their only way of trying to prevent this happening again?

I've had a 2.50 hobby for 7 years, I always tell the site when booking we have a Hobby, only twice have we been refused, both times we phoned another nearby site and there was no problem, don't listen to people who havnt got one telling you there are problems
