BC (before covid) prices were £10 to £15 per night for me and my son with one tent no electric but now it is £20 to £25 per night.
the site cost was something I did not really think about before if I wanted to go I just went. now Im checking my bank first before planning a trip and if the weather forcast is 50/50 I tend now not to go
are sites getting too expensive or am I just getting old and behind the times

your absolutely right! they have gone up totally unreasonabe amounts, and you will find that the so called pop up sites and "wild camping siess are the main culprits, and i cant believe the number of silly people who will pay the amounts asked for yet no toilets of showers!
I think many have gone up but just have many haven't.
We paid £10 night before last, water, disposal well cut lawn on the edge of a village on a farm site £10 for 2 people and a dog.
Tonight with electric, showers and loos £22 and tomorrow £16 again with electric and loos no showers.
Other end of the scale we paid £34 for a night but we wanted to stay do where particular and it was the only choice.
For sure lots of expensive sites out there but if you look at reviews on here there are plenty of good value to be found, we mix between and generally average £18 to £20 per night.
We have just started on our long trip to Scotland. Dunston Heath, first site now £20 per night, I remember it being £6. Grass everywhere...prices will be between £14 and £24.

Camping alone, sites that charge per person work for me. My favourite (Rynys, near Betws y Coed) still charges £10 per person per night without hook-up, which is £5, a bit steep for a solo camper! Ty Isaf near Bala is still £7 per adult per night, £4 per child (not sure when you stop being a child though). Free hot water/showers; campfires allowed on the camping field.
------------- Always edited for sloppy typing - when I spot it!
Many sites seem to have increased their prices particularly over the past couple of years when Covid restrictions made people think twice about going abroad and stayed in the UK. There's been a huge increase in first time tent/caravan/motorhome owners so the sites are simply responding to supply and demand.
That said, many sites haven't increased their prices (just spent a long weekend at a CL in Bath, hardstanding, EHU, own sanitation), £16 all in for 3 adults per night which I consider to be pretty good.
It will be interesting to see what effect people's ability to travel abroad more freely will have on UK prices this season?

People going abroad won’t make a difference. Site fees can’t go back to pre Covid until energy costs come back down. The hot showers that I use on a site cost more now, just like they do at home. The fuel for the lawn mower ditto. Keeping lights on in the toilets all night, like this CAMC site we’re on now, costs more. I expect the basic sites (no showers, on / off light switches in the toilets, no heating, longer grass) will manage to reduce costs rises the best.
The Old School House near Tain was 15 when they first opened last year, now 20. We are at Red Rocks Fishery near Preston now, also 20. No loos or showers on either but at least they have hardstanding.
Prices do seem to be going northwards, some of the bigger sites have increased prices by substantial amounts. As long as they are booked up those prices will remain. I urge people to start using the smaller 5 van type sites, be brave and start to use your solar setup.
We only charge £12.50 per night at Woodside Field CL. (M4 J18 Bristol/Bath) You can find some lovely small sites around why are you all paying so much?
Thanks, but we need Sky TV which means electric hookup. Your site sounds ideal if you want to go off grid. OH would curl up and die without his sport. And no, we don't watch TV all day.

We much prefer the smaller sites, but we must have EHU and preferably toilets and showers. No EHU for us means no fridge or water heater, as both are 240 volt only. Not bothered about TV as we never take one with us on holiday. Nice to get away from it as we probably watch too much at home.
We prefer grass pitches and wouldn't dream of paying extra for fully serviced.
we're just about to return to camping after a four year break. We both recently reached retirement age and have ordered a brand new bell tent to celebrate our freedom. With hindsight, investigating current tariffs before committing may have been a better idea.
One Norfolk site at which we used to stay has since changed hands. The previous owners used to offer a mid week over 60's discount, not anymore. Tariff was £10 a night, now it's off peak £27.50 (night) peak £33.00 (night) Bank Hols £110.00(min 3 nights). Dogs were free, now it's £4 per dog per night. Obviously we will no longer pitch there again.
Many other private sites looked at are the same.
It seems the best offers are with the likes of Haven or Park holidays where we can get 3 nights in September for £37 plus a £6 surcharge for my 2 small dogs. That's including ehu and access to all facilities.
If anyone knows of reasonably priced dog friendly sites in Suffolk/Norfolk (I'm limited on driving distance) please let us know.
Worth considering joining the Camping and Caravaning Club to get access to their members only small Certified Sites (CS's). You often, depending on location and competitive site prices, don't have to stay many nights to cover the membership fee from the usually very good CS rates.
Even full club sites can be economic compared to some private sites, but check sites are in areas you want to visit before joining.
