Thinking of going to this area in the spring, but which site? New Mills Marina gets good reports, but in the photos it looks like a car park. Whitecroft has only 1 poor and surely unjustified review on here. Any other ideas for a site (preferably CL/CS) hopefully with easy access and good views? Hardstanding preferred but not essential if the ground is well drained.
Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
Yes, New Mills marina is basically a gravelled area with the 5 undivided pitches in a row and little spare room in-between. One end pitch has a large (communal) grassy area next to it, but the others just look at the next door unit. If you're next to a campervan it's not so bad, but in a caravan you'd have to choose between an awning or parking your car next to your van (you can park your car on the opposite edge of the site, next to the shower block/holiday cottage). I'd say it's definitely better suited to campervans etc than caravans. We've used it for a few nights on 2 or 3 occasions because it suits our purposes to visit family in the area, is open all year round and has 16amp electric.
The 1 star review on here for Whitecroft Farm seems extremely harsh, and it has 5/5 on the CMC site and looks very attractive. If I were visiting for a "holiday"I would certainly choose Whitecroft Farm over the Marina, but it is not as convenient for us location wise.
There is also Combs Valley CS which would be a good alternative for us location wise, but I refuse to pay an extra £3 per night per dog! Access to Combs is along a fairly narrow road, so not as good as the other 2 sites. May be worth a look for you though.
Thanks Bofs, looked at Combs Valley and discounted it for the same reasons. We still have Harry but for how long we don't know. He will be 18 tomorrow which is great, but we know he can't be on steroids forever. Plenty of time to decide.
Yes, thought you noted that when I talked about losing Charlie who was 14 we think. Both "adopted" in that their original owners couldn't look after them properly.
I can’t help with sites but the 2/10 for Whitecroft was someone’s second & last site review, and they were just cross at being charged £15 for no facilities - though they stayed for several months anyway so it can’t have been that bad. I’d go by the club reviews.
It’s a pity if the low UKCS score put others off going.
