Hi
We will be going from Lewes Sussex to near Dores Inverness, with a 7 metre motorhome plus a 5 metre trailer.
can anyone suggest a good route with overnight stops perhaps a 2 nighter.
Iam a member of CAMC.
we have 3 weeks from the time we leave Sussex to when we have to be back.

thank you for any help.

Lordy Lordy. That’s quite a trek! Took us 2 days to get from Ayrshire to Canterbury in a car a while back.
I’d suggest heading over to the M6 which becomes the M74 over the border. Much easier roads than coming into Scotland on the east side. From Carlisle, it’ll be roughly 5 hours on M-way to Stirling then dual carriageway for much (not all) the route to Inverness. So you might not need to stop over in Scotland. Don’t underestimate that final stretch to the site from Inverness (or a junction further south): will be narrow & bendy, get advice from the site owner as you have a long rig.
I can’t think of CAMC club or affiliated sites up the spine of Scotland (happy to be corrected); but we don’t use CLs with no toilets, so I don’t know them. Otherwise, there are good independent sites (you’ll know about the site search here). We like Blair Drummond, about 10 mins west of Stirling; for some mountain scenery, look at Loch Morlich east of Aviemore or friends rate Milton of Fonab in Pitlochry. But you’re almost at Inverness by then.

As the saying goes if you want to go to Inverness don't start in Lewes!

Over 600 miles is some distance. First decision is east via M1 or west via M6 and then consider how much driving you are happy to do in a day.

Living in West Yorkshire I know the M1 better than the M6. 300 miles via M1/A1 would get you around Harrogate/Ripon, as most of the trip is motorway. There are sites off the A1 in that area.

However 350 miles from Ripon to Inverness is a different proposal. A1, A66, M74 is our preferred route for regular trips to Scotland. The issue is once you get past Stirling and start the A9 towards Inverness. It is slowly being improved, but long stretches are still single carriageway. The A9 is also the longest UK road with no roadside services or places to stop. You need to leave the main road to refuel etc.

9+ hours once you add a couple of stops. For this reason a steady drive through Scotland with an overnight stop around Stirling may be preferable.

Agree. That’s why I suggested Blair Drummond about 10 minutes easy drive west of Stirling (it used to be CAMC affiliated but chose to leave; it’s one of our favourite sites).

And if you need to stock up on supplies, or want a good breakfast before the leg to Inverness Gloagburn Farm shop and cafe just off the A9 near Perth is well worth a visit.

We will already have done 500 miles from home when we reach Lewes hence the 2 stops going to Scotland

Wow.
In that case, I’d suggest that you’ll need a night between Lewes & wherever in Scotland, for one night. Around Manchester / Sandbach was about halfway between Ayrshire & Canterbury for us, but we were in a car so I can’t recommend a specific CAMC Club site or CL thereabouts.

was thinking about 2 stops on route to scotland we will have to stop every couple of hours as we have a 4 month old puppy, and the motorhome is not the quickest thing on 4 wheels.
