We went to Pickering on Friday and I had paid online for 2 nights £68 with ehu,
and just as we were approaching the campsite. we smelt smoke in the air. Hubby as COPD, so we decided we would see how he was. At least we were in a campervan, so could close the doors to the outside. On Saturday morning the air was still thick with smoke, and hubby was feeling it on his chest.
We decided to leave, and I went to the office to ask if it was possible, they might allow us to use the 1 night, some other time. The lady on reception coldly said she would have to ask the owners, and they are on holiday. No empathy was shown to how my husband was. So we left. Today I received a phone call from the site. As I expected we lost our money for having to leave, they won't allow us to have another night another time. All I can say is thank goodness it was just one night we lost. There are many campsites and businesses on or close to the North Yorkshire Moors that will have been affected by the fire. Plus people that will have a lost there camping holidays like us. I still feel niggled that they wouldn't allow us to use our one night some other time, and because of this, we have decided we will not be returning to this campsite ever again. The question is, do I do a review?

I'd say you are perfectly entitled to mention this in a review, and let others read into it how they so wish.
I'd also opine that the campsite are under no obligation to refund and/or credit the one night under such circumstances.
This is precisely what travel/holiday insurance is for, and the responsibility for that lies 100% with the traveller(s).
Surely that is what reviews are about. Your own personal experience of a particular site. Regardless of the rights and wrongs of any individual situation, you simply give an accurate account of your experience. It is for the readers to decide whether or not they wish to make a booking knowing what you have said.

Review? Yes, review as per normal: toilets clean, big pitches, good views, whatever would help the rest of us - be factual. Comment on management by all means, but as statement of fact (they did x or did not do y). There are guidelines for reviews when you’re on that page.
I would advise leaving a review and be honest about your experience - it is up to the readers of the review to decide if they like or dislike what they have read.
