I just wanted to second Ashurst in the New Forest as a dog free site. We're going at the end of May for the first time. I have a son who is allergic to dogs, and though we don't usually tend to avoid them, I thought it would be one less thing to worry about on our first family camping trip, as he comes up in hives if they lick him, and then he has to wash the area. For the dog lovers around, I normally have no qualms about him being with dogs and stroking them too if he chooses as his allergy his quite mild.

Sorry, can't help with suggestions for sites, but I am really sorry that your little girl is frightened of dogs. My 10 year old nephew is terrified of them after a dog jumped up at him when he was about 4 years old. He has never been used to dogs having never had a dog. It's quite sad really as his father (my brother) has not and will not bring him to visit my house because we have a dog, even though he is a very docile old thing and I have always promised to shut him in another room. My own son was quite visciously attacked by a dog when he was 9 years old, a couple of nasty bites, stitches etc. But because he had grown up with a dog he knew that dogs are not all bad. While he is wary of the breed that attacked him, he does not have a fear of dogs in general. I really hope your daughter grows out of this fear. If I think of any sites I'll let you know.
I cant help you with new forest sites but 2 chimneys in kent is a no dogs site.
My daughter used to be terrified of dogs, I mean really really scared, she would climb up my body to get away from one, so we got a dog and now she isnt scared anymore (We got a giant breed and it cured her fear of all dogs, lol!)
Not trying to tell you what to do, but it worked for us!

Yes, jenhug, our daughter would shin up us at the sight of a dog 20m away, she doesnt do it any more, but then again shes a bit big for that now. She will still hug in very close to me and not take her eyes of the dog until its out of sight. Makes going out for walks very stressful and bike rides are just a no no. Our son however is wary but is ok.
We did think about getting a dog or a cat, but with both of us working all day and my allagy to cats its not a practical option. Unfortunatly the rest of the family have no dogs so no getting used to them that way either.
Have looked at Ashurst and it does look a strong contender.
Once again thankyou to all and happy camping.

Due to our Daughter being terrified of dogs, we are looking for a site that does not allow dogs. We're looking at going to the New Forest area this year. Can anyone give some good leads (xcuse the pun).
Sandy Balls has a large area pitching area - I think it's called "North Field" where dogs aren't allowed and rules about keeping dogs under control in other areas are rigorously enforced. The area's name conjures up images of spartan conditions but let me assure you that it is anything but spartan. We always ask for Pitch 41 in North Field - it's a good size and nicely situated.
This subject and the other old chestnut "Adult Only" sites do arouse passions but ignore it. You have your needs and preferences so don't allow yourself to be cajoled and bullied by others.
I've been away for a while and so I can't remember if you can email memebers in here.. if ya can I can't figure out how so will have to post my little bit here.. sorry.
My only worry for jfarbrace is that the little one will hurt herself because of this fear, by which I mean that when i walk my GSD down the street I have seen mainly asian kids literally jump into the road as they see him coming towards them.. I dont want to argue or condem anyone at all... just annoys me somewhat because Jay wouldn't harm anyone...
Jfarbrace best of luck with your search.. blessings and if I see any no dog sites I'll make a note.
Both my girls are terrified of dogs , myself & hubby are not too keen on them either . We found a lovely site in Kent , which is ideal fo us as it has a heated outside pool & no dogs , i've just put the link for it on my previous post, but i'm not on commision , honest..
why do people feel like they have to tip toe around dog owners, NOTE DOG OWNERS, WE ALL HAVE REASONS FOR NOT WANTING DOGS ON OUR HOLS WHY SHOULD WE HAVE JUSTIFY THIS, WHY DO YOU ALL TAKE IT TO HEART. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH SOMEONE POSTING A COMMENT TO FIND A CAMPSITE WITH NO SMELLY DOGS.
There are enough campsites in the UK that we should all be able to find ones that suit our preferences without falling out.
Some campsite owners will choose to differentiate by being adult-only, dog free, no campfires, no groups etc. and this gives us a choice. Vote with your wallet!
I am awaiting the 'non-smoking' campsite... so that I don't have next doors ciggie smoke wafting over my bacon sarnies in the morning as happened on our last outing - totally ruined my brekkie!

you sound a real charmer, would prefer a pack of dogs next door than camping next to you
Just thought I'd mention it rather than tiptoe around a non dog owner with such a negative attitude...................
Can totally understand the rest of the comments on this thread. Must be a nightmare though, as you have to leave the campsite at times and will always run into dogs on the beach, shops etc etc

I can understand children being afraid of dogs if they have been frightened, jumped on, bitten in the past etc. IMO I would think it would be good for a child to be slowly introduced to puppies perhaps and hopefully eventually they will become more at ease around dogs which would be a good thing for the child, to have that fear can't be much fun. I don't mean this necessarily just for camping because you will encounter dogs in all walks of life.
I have two dogs and purposely keep them away from children, as I am aware that not everyone finds my bouncy labradors as much of a joy as I do. But I have to say its a shame some parents don't keep their children on a leash as well........on my last two camping trips I have had to tell children who were edging towards my two not to touch them. I won't ever trust either of my two dogs 100% around children, you just don't know and for that reason I ensure that they don't come into contact with strange children.
Ironically one of my dogs is frightened of children as when he was a puppy two small girls saw him and came barrelling at him squealing their heads off at seeing an andrex puppy
Anyways slightly off post - sorry - I hope you find somewhere that is non-dogs and you have an enjoyable camping trip
We have a dog called Jenny. We would never let her roam free on a campsite. That would be very inconsiderate. We are going camping to be with her
I hate it when big dogs come near us uninvited (off lead) as Jenny was also attacked a few years ago (not on a campsite)
We also very much appreciate the many parents who teach their children normal respect for dogs and ask us as owners if they may stroke her. Jenny has never bitten anyone but she was born with a disability which causes her huge pain when touched anywhere behind her front shoulders
We have many friends who have children and they are all understand that we will only let them stroke her face
We have only been camping once. The dog owners on that site were wonderful. It was a site where dogs had to be on a lead
We got talking to the other dog owners near us and I told them about Jennydog getting attacked by another dog
They helped us and Jennydog. She is less afraid of dogs now. I hope that you will be able to go to a site where folk can help each others like this one
