Hi Sonic, I have also looked at your suggestion and it looks pretty amazing, only thing is that multimap says it would take me 6 hours to get there.. bah

You could always nip across on the ferry and say hi to my family in Lewis - lots of tent camping there on any of the machair - not a lot of facilities but you can certainly wild camp there.

I have stayed at the hostel at kinlochleven when cycling the WHW last year, and years ago stayed in Ullapool a couple of nights in a very nice B&B, I like Ullapool with its palm trees.. will look into it.. cheers
P.S I also fancy Lewis as I have never been

Didnt have a big tent when i stayed there, but I can vouch for the site at Ardmair, barbecued mackerel is great! Another one worth looking into is Achmelvic ..
I will probably be at Blair Atholl in august, Might try Invermoulin for a trial run or maybe Cobleland at Aberfoyle as I have been there before and like to swim in the river, I find Faskally a bit sqaushed in, and they seem to get a lot of real drinkers who make a right racket returning to their tents from the pub.
a few years ago we were at Glenmore and it was thoroughly miserable damp and misty for days, pity because the wee beach at Loch Morlich is great

Been to site at Ullapool and Caolasncon at Kinlochleven and both great sites. Prefer the one at Kinlochleven though as it was less regimented and a better bit of beach to bbq on, also for the scenery. Kinlochleven, Immervoulin both amongst my favs and a newcomer to my "absolutely luv award" goes to the site up at Durness, first time there last year and I havent stopped raving about it since, beaches to die for! Am going back up this year for 8 days in June and cant wait!
Absolutely loved the pics Lobeydosser, my kind of place. I like any site with good scenery and walking so tend to stick to beach/mountain/loch types of places. Hate all singing, all dancing sites. Havent done the islands yet is on my list to do................so much to see so little time!!!
Teeny, We started at the Butt of Lewis and spent almost a month travelling down to Barra. (120 miles).
However we had been to Lewis many times before and so only Harris and the Uists and Barra were new to us.
If we were going back again to any of the places, it would be to BARRA.
It really is the only unspoiled area of the whole shebang and yet the complete road length is only 15 miles.
Reading about the Western Isles of the last 20 years and Barra is that. But it will not be for long and if you want to walk on unpoluted beaches, see scenery at its best and taste Island Hospitality that you will never forget, then visit Barra in the next 2 years or forget about it for ever.
Barra is not a destination. It is a dying experience and once it has gone it will be gone forever.
