if i were a campsite owner i would ban both barbi's and fires ,both of them are nice for the user but downwind its not so nice . stinking smoke coming in your tent from the barbi and pin holes in your nylon tent due to sparks fro them both having a "firepit" (and no doubt dreaming of "real" camping) is rather silly when everything else is 21st century ,if you want to camp old style do it in a field and drink from a puddle whilst you huddle under an army blanket under a tarp strung between trees some people thing going outside means a mandatory fire ,i'v even found an angler having one down the local pond i bailiff (cookers fine in the rules) and on a nearby village green crowded with visitors enjoying the river some bright spark most weekends seems to need one ,strange some people

Thats a strange way of looking at things...I love my fire bucket and I'm extremely careful where and when I use it...however I'm not tempted to drink out of puddles.
Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
We camp at Roman Wall and as such it is 'no open fires' Although we do use our BBQ as a fire pit and were told so long as it doesnt ruin the grass its fine :) This year we invested in a small fire pit as we replaced our BBQ which isnt suitable for fire pits! Looking forward to using it! Happy Days!
I'm with Fatbloke and ask everyone to consider others. Not everyone wants to have a fire/bbq near to them and some people have medical problems with smoke and end up sitting in with no windows open to get away from it.
The firepits in certain areas of a site sound the best idea but people don't want to leave their "castle" and go elsewhere.
Personally I don't have a bbq would buy disposables if needed.
Speaking of people having fires anywhere they fancy. I was walking my dog in the local park recently and there are some rocks that naturally form a sort of stone semicircle. This couple were sat there next to a merrily blazing campfire - I couldn't believe it, I would never start a fire in my local park, it just seems wrong!!!

In my experience sites that allow fires aren't going to stop doing so as they are very much sought after, if you don't want a campfire and don't like the smoke don't go to those sites.
It seems obvious really, the majority of sites don't allow camp fires so don't penalise those that do.
