yes wales is good but yes it rains so do have a good supply of pegs and shelter from the winds.There is alot in wales if you want the views all of north wales is lovely so is mid and south it really is that good!

We will be starting on the Gower and then heading north from there but we are undecided whether to follow the coast or head straight up the middle. Any thoughts on this?

Don't let Liz fool you though - we had only 2 lots of rain when we spent a week there last summer - the day we set up and the day we decamped (really!!). The rest of the week was scorching hot.

Our plan is to stay on the Gower for 4 or 5 days to see some friends before heading for Chester. However we intend to spend about 10 days going from the Gower to Chester (very slowly ). Travelling about 100 miles every 3 days or so.
Just being two adults (and 2 wee dugs) our needs are few and a field with a CDP is all we need, but weather that is "scorching hot" would be a rather nice bonus!!!!
Hi Michalla ,I would recomend that check out Dolbryn nr Newcastle Emlyn,it is a really great site for young kids with a playpark,animals to feed and fairly close to some beautiful beaches,the facilities are always spotless and thet have a family room where can shower with the young ones.There is a small bar which has toys and games to keep the kids occupied and the owners Bev&Dave are really helpful .The whole area is totally unspoilt and the regulars are very freindly,just check out the reiews on UK Campsite.

hi, went to gower last year, my kids were 1 and 5, lots of things to do with the kids in bad weather, i never stayed on a campsite sorry, stayed in a lodge, worms head is nice, there is a kids zoo museum type place, an indoor play area,waterfalls, lots of leaflets around with things to do, so i wouldnt worry too much about that, just find your campsite, good luck

I was sited on Wood Office Caravan Park in Cold Blow for 4 years. Very large, well kept site, just South of the very pretty market town of Narberth, but also about 10 or 15 minutes from all the beaches. Its also 5 minutes up the road from Folly Farm (very popular with kids and you can trade in your Tesco Clubcard vouchers for entry). They have an indoor Victorian funfair and barns with animals and activities if it rains. Also the only place in Wales with Giraffes. And its also a very short distance to Oakwood and The Blue Lagoon (the pool part of Bluestone holiday park - you can go as day visitors).
The site I'm on now is Gower Villa in the lovely little village of Clynderwen (there are 12 reviews on here and I would agree with everything). I've been there a year and the owners can't do enough for you. Its a smaller site than the first but beats it hands down. Has PAYG wi-fi which is a bonus in bad weather. You can either purchase a code for your own laptop or use the computer in reception.
There's so much to do in Pembrokeshire, I've been going there years and have only scratched the surface. Its a fabulous place to explore. Both sites are a good base to go in every direction, neither of them are far from main roads to take you East, West, North or South.
We went to the Gower for a couple of days a couple of years ago now. It is beautiful but scenery and beaches is all there is - there is a place you can do archery and a castle at Oxwich - I have never been anywhere so deserted. It's 17 miles to the end from Killay - there's a co-op in Killay, there is no shop as big as a co-op on the whole of the Gower - I wasn't particularly looking but there comes a limit to what you can buy from my mums etc. It's lovely but wouldn't be good if it was chucking it down. Well you'd have nothing indoor to do....But I would go there again no problem for the scenery, just stunning.
Pembrokeshire is equally fab, loads for kids - you have to go to Folly Farm - has bits indoors if raining! Lots to do in Tenby and then go up the coast by Newgale for surf and a bit more desertion.
Coming from the Gower to Chester, well if you come up through Rhayader - go to Gigrin Farm and see the red kites being fed. We have just been to Knighton, lovely and Offa's Dyke is just there. Have also been to down the coast many times to Tenby so that is equally good - but different. You could go to the centre for alternative technology in Machynlleth - I keep meaning to go there. I am quite into the Marches at the moment as I am reading a book about Edward I which mentions the Mortimers a lot.The road is quite twisty through Newtown etc so be warned. Maybe you could visit the Plassey when you get up towards Wrexham before going to Chester.
Peterbiz I just read your post again - where were all these indoor places? We were in Port Eynon but also went to Oxwich. I got the impression all these villages were tiny but there are two fish and chip restaurants next to each other at Oxwich. I am now thankfully completely oblivious to the indoor play areas as my two are now almost both teenagers. Phew,..... but sorry if there are places then great...
I live in Swansea so i am a little biased but i cant reccommend the Gower enough, it is a beautiful place and so much to do.
A great campsite is Three Cliffs Bays, amazing views and a fantastic beach. It is also only 30mins tops from Swansea centre where there is the LC2 - a leisure centre where there is a swimming pool with flumes etc and you can learn to surf there.
Lots of lovely walks and days out in Gower too. Just around the bay from Three Cliffs in Southgate there is the most amazing tea rooms called Maddocks - they do the best welsh cakes ever!!

Just been looking at one campsite in the Rhossili area on the Gower. It would be ideal for us to start the holiday season with a week in May. That was until I saw the tariff for our 6 berth tent and EHU 25 pounds a night Idont think so at that price. Its cheaper in Devon
i like the sound of three cliffs, apparently they have a more sheltered field which i would feel happier with (bit worried by tent being destroyed by gales with three young kids in it!). my only other worry was what to do with kids if there isn't beach weather. though my kids are happy to look at castles and rocks!
we did the Gower last october-beautiful, beautiful area, great for walks but not much for the kids.

I agree with the comments on the Gower - it's beautiful if the weather is good but if you've got kids and its raining there is hardly anything to do. I'm looking for a site in pembrokeshire at the moment, need EHU and have an 8 birth tent. I only want to go for 5 nights but all the sites I have contacted so far want a minimum 7 night booking for school hols. Anybody got any suggestions?
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
