IF you are going to have a website and email contact you MUST respond and keep it up to date ,else what's the point ?!

I have to admit that the site I emailed via here teh otehr day had replied byt he evening, whereas I am still waiting for others who I email three years ago to reply
IMO it's a crazy decision for anyone who runs a business, no matter what size, to not have any web presence. They almost certainly lose out on potential customers. It doesn't have to be an all singing dancing web page, (or pages). A simple one page site (perhaps containing a price list, contact details and one or two photos), or maybe a facebook page, is far better than no web presence at all. Whether it's a secondary line to the main business or not, surely the more custom they get the better?

Why is it crazy? I've met campsite owners that did it as a lifestyle choice, they do it because they enjoy it and if it brings enough money without loads of stress then why would they want to advertise?

I think it's crazy because it's a business. I understand your point about a lifestyle choice, but surely if you run your own business you want to maximise profit?
I wouldn't not go to a campsie because it didn't have a web page -provided that my queries via phone or email were anwered quickly. With regard to reviews it is hard to say, unless somebody had said to me that it was a gem of a site. OK Its not good when you go to a site and it is b. awful if you are only there for a couple of nights, - but it must be heartbreaking if it is your week's holiday. I went to one site - three nights - the ladies were dreadful - very basic, and no hot water, and although the loo itself was clean, the actual block was grubby. NO hot water, no loo paper etc. Cobwebby shower worked the first morning , but then was out of order for the rest of the week. I had to keep the kids clean with baby wipes. No appoliges from the site owners - who just didn't seem to care. I was glad to pack away on the Sunday. Had I chosen that site for a week I would have been devistated.
My personal opinion is all sites should have a website and you should always be able to book online, having to phone them or send an email enquiry is time consuming and usually by the time I've written it, I've already found another site and booked online.
I could be missing out on some great sites because of this, but also they could be missing out on some good custom because you cant book online.
Lets hope they move along with the times pretty sharpish.
