We joined the CCC last October at the caravan show NEC Birmingham and got 2 free nights and a free ferry crossing - well worth our £39! Our 2 free nights were worth £42

I've been a member of the C&CC for five years now and the only benefit I get out of it is being able to book online. I find most of the C&CC sites very basic and invariably overpriced - I've just returned from a 5-Star site which cost me the equivalent of going to a C&CC site - AND I could've had more adults in my party at the site I went to for the same price. The C&CC charge per person.
I'm also miffed that they've dropped the loyalty scheme (which wasn't much good anyway) but at least it was something. Now it's this 5 for 4 or whatever it is....and if you examine more closely, you see that it's never at the site YOU want or when YOU want to go.....
I suppose it depends on your definition of 'basic'. We don't find them basic but then we'd probably pay a premium not to have a bar, restaurant and entertainment! It always amuses me that people are prepared to pay more for extra facilities that are themselves going to take more money off you.

Richard

C&CC is not for everyone, as each person has different needs and wants.
I find being a member hugely beneficial to me personally, as I like the club sites as they are always very well maintained, and safe as there is a warden on site all the time.

I agree with DK, I am big lover of CC&C sites, If basic means no pub/club or pool, then CC&C sites everytime for me.
------------- Had to give up the camping due to the rubbish Weather and Wind, so got myself a campervan!

I'm no fan of C&CC sites at all, they seem very biassed towards vans. The C&CC sites I've seen don't compare to the private sites in the same area on facilities or price. £39 to be a second class citizen? No thanks.
I can see that some people would benefit from joining, over 55s etc but as a family with a large tent, EHU and dog I haven't found a C&CC site that compares with a private site for the same (or invariably) less money.
------------- Coming soon to a campsite near you, Jake, Mrs Jake, Little legs, Bosdog the Doodle and Olly the Cavachon.
2014:
August: Scarborough, High Yedmandale. Not tenting though, using one of their lovely holiday homes!
as they are only allowed 5 caravans / campers , there will often be more tents than units
Since joining the C&CC in May I have been looking for CS's with basic facilities (i.e EHU, toilets and sinks) that are within walking distance of places I want to visit and at a reasonable price for a solo camper. So far I have been unsuccessful although I am still looking.
As it happens, in searching, I came across the Ship and Anchor Marina Campsite near Arundel which is a listed site. That means it has been approved but is not actually a C&CC site. It has everything you could want including lovely grassy pitches and a pub right next to the river, and I was charged just £11.50 a night with EHU. I don't know if that is a per person price or for more but to me it was pretty well perfect.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
