Low Glengyre Farm CL
I've just contacted this site, sounds just my cup of tea (or glass of gin!). Do you know if the nearby pub is dog-friendly? And how long (if possible) to walk to the lighthouse? Thanks

Hi, same question as above - are there walks direct from site? I'm looking for some different sites to try out this year. And when does the site open? Thanks
there is no direct walks from the park but sure there will be some not to far away. the site is open from the 1st march till 31 jan i believe it was under another name years ago this site was taken over a few years ago and now has a warden who cant do enough for you even help you put up your tent,/level your caravan even lend you an ariel for your tv. nothing is to much for him and what a welcome you get i think we even have another uk campsite member who liked it so much he took a seasonal pitch. there is a small pub in village about 1ml away serves good food dog friendly and a great atmosphere

It depends on far you like to walk regarding walking to the lighthouse. It's probably about 4 or 5 miles to the lighthouse. However, the walk would be well worth it to see the seals and have a morning high tea at the hotel. I'm fairly certain the hotel won't allow dogs inside the hotel but there may be somewhere they can be kept outside.
There are lovely circular walks from the CL approx. 5 miles long through Leswalt and to Kirkcolm. Of course, you also have 330 acres of farm to explore as well as glen on the CL's doorstep! Their are red squirrels, tawny owls, barn owls, roe deer etc. all on site too.

Hi, thanks for your replies, here and to my emails. Your site sounds lovely. Dont know why I've not heard of it before. I think a lot of folk's interests will be whetted now. Most folk, like myself are familiar with the coastal parts and not so much inland. We are always looking for nice small quiet sites, and walks are very important. The lighthouse might be a bit ambitious if its 10 miles return but, hey, where theres a will. Sometimes when we camp with friends we take one car to the end of the walk and drive back. The Blue Peter Hotel at Kirkcolm is dog friendly with well behaved dog's allowed both in the bar area and in the beer garden. The only place they're not allowed is in the lounge.
