think of the costs of running a campsite, rates, insurances, maintenance, even pay £100's a year to get ratings from other organisations.
I think you get what you pay for, we shop about and look for quality sites, I'd rather book a campsite with nice clean facilities and a friendly atmosphere, than paying a lower price and going somewhere i dont enjoy.
I'd rather pay for a nice campsite than go to Pontins, stay in a Blackpool hotel on the seafront or go on a shopping trip to Calais - any day!! In fact I'd rather poke my own eyes out than do any of the above, ever.
Off to Eskdale C&CC tomorrow for 4 nights; cost £101.20 (as we are not C&CC members). A bit more than we normally pay but we're more than happy to pay this for a well run, quiet site in a beautiful area...
Each to their own though... everyone is different and as long as this is the case there will always be sites to cater for different tastes and budgets.
Off to Birchwood Tourist Park for 6 nights starting on Thu 11 Jul, for 15.25 GBP a night, with very good clean showers, toilets and washing up facilities.
Later at the end of August, I shall be staying at Thetford C&CC on a jumbo pitch paying an extra 7.10 GBP a night (my choice as I am going to have friends around for meals), and the total nightly fee is only 23.70 GBP including the extra jumbo pitch fee (I am a member and do not need to pay non-member pitch fee). Again, it has very good clean facilities.
I have posted in other similar threads in the past, in that I have not seen a significant increase in prices for the type of sites that I would choose, typically sites with good clean facilities with no entertainment or pub or anything fancy.
And I usually camp during non-school holidays except the Easter weekend.
Concur with the sentiments that each to their own, and that sites with no fancy add-on's that offer good clean facilities at reasonable prices can still be found.
