We always choose farmers field with no security. Sometimes been the only ones there for a week, sometimes high turnover of people and never had a problem.
You’ll get someone, somewhere, sometime that will be opportunistic but that’s true everywhere in all situations. No more common just coz it’s a field in the middle of nowhere. The real remote places people like that wouldn’t be bothered to go to.
I’d be more worried about a site with hundred + pitches and lots of anonymity.
But as said before if you’re not comfortable choose another site, there’re plenty around.

Well I took one look at him and after deciding it was either Del boy Trotter or even a certain Arthur Daley (You know the sort as in "No I wouldn't buy a second hand car from you mate") I pretended to be a German police officer calling myself "Officer Crabtree" and soon sent him scuttling off with his tail between his legs.
The worst we have had was the theft of our gas bottle from outside the caravan on a well respected and supposedly secure site. We had it filled in the morning and the next morning it was gone. We suspect some one on the site nicked it and not a passer by!
