I live in Scotland. Probably not worth joining either club for touring up here, unless you want to use a few for stopovers ie CCC Moffat (quiet) or CAMC Strathclyde (very noisy). Very poor coverage of Club sites in more remote areas. Plenty of excellent independent sites, use the UKCS site search.
Edit to add: there are a few club sites in areas that you’re less likely to get to, where there’s only a club site eg Garlieston in SW Scotland or Melrose in the Borders, or Culzean (said Cullane) in Ayrshire or Onich near Fort William. But you can join the clubs at any site, if (as others have said) you’re going to use them for more than 4 nights, at which point it’s worth the fee.
If you’re wanting a site with toilets, that’s more likely to be a CCC Certificated Site because they usually take tents (that are unlikely to have a portapotti), rather than a CAMC Certificated Location which often don’t have toilets (caravans & MHs have an en suite).
Enjoy the trip, wherever you go!
I am a member of both C&CC (since 2007) and CAMC (since 2021 when I got my van).
I also use independent sites found by searching via UKCS's Site Search facility (high recommended).
I only stay at club sites for personal safety concerns as I am a lone female camper with a dog and don't like to stay in the middle of nowhere.
I always plan and book well in advance, and have never turned up on a site unannounced and hope to get a pitch anytime of the year. Personal preferences and all that.
For school holidays from May onwards, and the summer school holidays, I would strongly advise one to book in advance to avoid disappointment.
Enjoy your trip.
