Pete,

With regard to "one of my concerns is the subject matter people may access on our computer",  you should be able to set it up to disallow certain types of websites, a bit like what you would do to prevent children accessing 'adult' sites on your home computer.

I work for BT and there is a product called openzone where the site needs a broadband access then you can become a "hot spot" that gives wireless access. The hot spots plug into the broadband router & costs a one off charge of £199 then you get a percentage back on any openzone vouchers you sell. Motorway services & pubs etc all have them.

I am not an expert on the ins & outs but I would take my laptop for internet access onto sites that this was offered.

When choosing between sites in a particular area, wireless internet access would certainly be one item in a site's favour.

I'm quite a keen walker, but before the "why would you want to watch tv when you're away in the caravan" crowd jump in, the simple fact of the matter is that not every caravanner wants to spend 12 hours a day climbing up and down mountains!!!  We live in changing times, and for many people, surfing the www is a new and modern pastime.  For others, particularly self-emplyed contract workers and business people, having access to e-mails and their own web sites could be the difference between going away and not, and even the difference between caravanning and not.

Sadly, there are still some blinkered caravanners around who think everybody should be doing as they do.  You can spot them quite easily;  they're the ones who always seem to be at the site shop changing their gas bottles and buying mantles for their gas lights!!

I used to get my broadband from a transmitter on the local church when I lived near Lands End. The bandwidth was pretty good I seem to remember, though more prone to problems if someone on the same 'node' was downloading illicit movies! I see that ActNow http://www.actnowcornwall.co.uk/wirelessBroadbandHotspots.asp are sponsoring Openzone points in Cornwall, maybe you could get one sponsored in Rural Devon too.

When you have a local network other users can only access folders that you actively choose to share so you shouldn't have a problem with security. See http://www.wown.info/j_helmig/guidshrh.htm for some more info about security built into Windows XP.
