Hi all , we are new to camping, Been out bought what we think are going to need plus more , All exited to be honest im more than the kids, Spent the last two days phoneing round to camp site and can't get nothing for this fri,sat and sun.
What camp site is this in Buxton? Just want to go out and put the tent up and try it to see what else we will need.
Did'nt think we'd have to book in advance to go camping or is this weekend busy being a bank holiday and normally no problems?

Yes it is right the forecasters do sometime get the weather wrong....Blackpool has it's own weather...Preston is 18 miles away and can have different weather completly to us.
Welcome to UKCS. You wont normally have a problem finding sites but you have to book a few weeks in advance for BH's and the school hols. Most get booked solid for holiday weekends if they are halfway decent. Keep trying as there will be cancellations.

This site sounds great, very family orientated. What site is it, we have considered going that way some time, but our kids are still quite young (4&5) and not sure if they will be up to all the walking? I used to go there alot when I was young, so would be nice to go back.

Nobody likes cancelling do they because everyone loses out. You lose your time away and the site operator loses income.
But it just can't be helped.
As an avid caravanner of many years, I know that as far as I'm concerned it's no contest when its a straight choice between a cold, soggy field overshadowed with grey leaden skies tipping rain all over you or a nice warm house with everything laid on.
Doubtless you will lose your deposit but you may be able to get the site to hold it against the prospect of a future booking. A bit short sighted of them if they don't.................and if they get snotty with you, well you know what to do don't you?
we have had a phone call from kingsbury water park ccc cancelling our weekend break as the site is water logged, too late to get anywhere else now, hope the weather is good for you all
------------- i dont know where i am going but i am on my way!!
We are going away next weekend to Allonby, just up the road from us and I am looking out of the window at pouring rain at the moment, I just hope it gets better by Thursday. Still if it gets really bad we can be packed and home within 2 hours, but fingers crossed all the same.

After camping in a family dome tent that didnt take off but got VERY wet in Bude 2 weeks after the Boscastle floods.
Well we will camp in anything as long as its not too windy although now I have a proper tent I dont see any problems........hahahahahaha
They may be my famous last words and ill be out to buy a static next season......lol
hi. well we braved it and went! the weather was awful... it rained alot, the ground was sodden and the wind blew a gale! not to mention the cold!!
but we went with good friends, the kids loved it and the wine flowed like buxton spring water .
it wasnt the best start to tent life, but we had a laugh and made the most of it. rather like a baptism of fire, we were thrown in the deep end and still managed to come back smiling (and i warmed up after several hours of central heating and a very hot shower).
in all, im glad we went, your memories are what you make them, and i`d rather look back at our cold soggy camping trip and laugh about it, than look back on a bank holiday of DIY and housework!!

Try Lathkill Dale camp site in Derbyshire. Its just outside Bakewell a lovely site and the owner is great we went for our first camping trip and loved being in the middle of nowhere. Weve had the same prob as u and have had to book on an adults only campsite for this weekend u usually dont have to book so far in advance unless its school hols or a large site i.e. calow top, try Lathkill Dale camp site and see how u go - would love to go back there if just for the peace and quiet and the 'back to nature' feel. Great site not a lot there but owners are lovely and helpful and they freeze ur cool packs for u the pitches are large too im sure u and the kids will love it!!!!!!!!
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
