I really think it is naive to tarnish a whole area based on one bad experience.  If I did that, I don't think I would be going camping in a lot of places.

I personaly love the IOW, but then I love Cornwall as well.  The IOW gives me a chance to get away and in some cases go back in time.  But thats the character of the Island.  It wouldn't be the IOW if it wasn't like that.  Of course the Island has a few bad spots just like anywhere else ( and that includes Cornwall ).  But with regards to camping sites, you have to remember that most ( if not all ) of those people making the noise came from the mainland and may one day visit places like Cornwall.

I love both the IOW and Cornwall.  The IOW is extremely close to us, but the ferry trip makes it feel like we have gone a long way.  I cant comment on Whitecliff Bay as havent stayed there, although think hubby has, but a long time ago.

The IOW is like stepping back in time to the 1950's, but that makes it quaint not old fashioned.  I dont find the attractions particularly expensive apart from one place which I wont mention as it was a couple of years ago and it may have improved since.

As to your comment about no one sticks to speed limits.......thats a bit of a sweeping statement, its only some idiots who drive faster than the limits and put themselves and others at risk!!!!!

All in all I am one in favour of the IOW and intend on visiting it again in the future.

Just got back from Whitecliff Bay.  Although I cannot agree with mattieb comments regarding the IOW, I can certainly agree that Whitecliff Bay was not as I had hoped.  In-fact it is the most stressfull camping trip we have ever had.  A completely dis-organised place right from check-in upto the enetrtainment arrangements.  Was extremely disappointed with the place.  Its certainly the worst commercial site we have been to on the IOW and we have been to most in the last few years.
