I don;t know what your problem is with me but you keep having to have a dig and you have done it on other occasions to make me look small. When I thought we may want a referendum on the issue of deposits/ mutiple bookings I meant all CC members not just the few people on here and yes I would accept the outcome we do live in a democracy. I actually thought I was allowed to air my views. As for "being at odds" circumstances change and I am allowed to change my mind and might actually want to book a main site.
I have reported your post hopefully this will now get locked.

Well said Caroline, there is too much of the getting one over on people complex sometimes on this site and it is not neccessary. I know people have lots of problems with cc sites and them always being booked up especially Rowntree park because of its position in York.
I found that last year with Clumber, you have no chance if you just want to go ad hoc. I've booked 5 weekends there this year scattered from March through to end of September. I would pay a small deposit, a tenner sounds ok, but there again does it need changing when it seems to be only a few people who come on this forum who are unhappy with the system? I have to agree though, although I had not planned to stay on Rowntree CC site this year, it does seem ridiculous that it is booked up for the whole year at this time of year. The only weekends fully booked at Clumber are Easter and bank holidays which is as you would expect.
just wait another couple of months then each weekend at clumber for the following month is usually booked. we have 4 weekends through the year booked there but may cancel now as its cheaper and more convenient for us to do mid week now.
Why Jerry+Tina does Caroline have to justify wanting to stay at Rowntree Park and for goodness sake trawling through old post how very odd of you....this a supposed to be a friendly forum....yes put your point across but stop all this digging.....
I can assure you Caroline I did not at any time attempt to ridicule you or indeed have a dig at you. I, along with others, was merely disagreeing with your views regarding time limits on sites, deposits, booking lengths, booking system etc.

Yes I agree with most there should be deposits people blocking spaces just in case is really very unfair on others..... but I also think that there should be a few pitches which are book week before only, so the spirit of camping being a spontaneous thing is protected too. To protect income for the club.. the prior books could say be 10% cheaper.. then booking in the last week ones.
Personally I dislike having to plan my life 10 years in advance but I can see that campsites have to protect your income. Just an idea before I am shot.
never really had too much bother about not being able to book a site due to being full, i have heard rowntree is a very good site, altho never been myself, there are numerous other sites aorund york. as for this particular site being ideal as you can walk into city centre, what happened to the understanding us caravanners portray to bringing much needed revenue to small town/city economy, surely using their public transport services would support this?

I am not a member of CC but am a member of C&CC, and I wish they didn't take deposits. My husband and I are currently students and we have two children, we therefore have very limited income. I would love to be able to book some sites now, but obviously this time of year things are particularly tight so I wouldn't be able to pay the deposits. This means that I will be very limited in being able to get on to my preffered sites as I am needing school holidays too, which are quite clearly being booked by people/families in a better position financially than me.
Anyway I feel that the no deposit first come first served is probably a fairer way to do things as it is then not determined by any other factors (apart from access to internet).
As for Jerry+Tina's response to the OP by producing a previous post, I found this highly enlightening, it shows, that although the OP is raving about people booking up pitches and then cancelling, which they have every right to do even if they just change their minds, she has clearly 'changed her mind' about the importance of needing/wanting a club site that She was previously adamant she wouldn't want/need. I don't feel at all that Jerry+Tina was ridiculing her and was merely pointing out that everone has the right to change their mind and if this is to the detriment of that person,(i.e they missed out) then Tuff Luck......I have before today thought Oh I won't bother buying a reduced chicken whilst out shopping, only to get home and wished I had, but on returning to the shop they are all gone....Surely I have only myself to blame......
Well sorry for the (extremely) long post, to sum up No Deposit=Good............ Jerry+Tina=Nothing Wrong...........

I think melpa you have total missed the point.......why does anyone going trawling through old post and then go on and on dig....dig....dig.......we all make mistakes but that is how we learn like you did with the chicken....the point was why keep having a dig......we are a friendly forum....where we all enjoy a friendly not upsetting debate on lots of subject.
