totally agree but sadly Wiltshire a little too far for us at this time of year .
Not sure if you had tried this already, have you tried using the Camp Site Search facility by selecting "Open All Year" in a location near you?

It's years since we went to a pub in the evening, even when we are near one, too expensive. We watch TV in the caravan and yes, we do drink.
Perhaps it is different for me as I am on my own, and like to have the option of going out to eat and to drink at a pub when I go camping.
I love to go camping at pub sites for this reason - to have such a choice.
I must like both the pub and the site for me to return though, got to like both. Hence when I find one like Yew Tree Inn in Ross-on-Wye, I shall keep going back!
There is another pub with a camp site that I liked, just waiting for them to improve their EHU supply from 6A to 10A, as 6A is not enough if the weather is hot and I have to use the air con!
When I plan my meals when camping, I normally allow one meal out.

We tend to eat out quite a bit when we are on holiday, as we like to go out exploring, and are often out all day and sometimes into the evening. However, we never go away at this time of year, and our caravan is now fully winterised and will remain that way until spring. With the dark evenings we are far more comfortable at home. If we are just sitting watching TV or reading books in the evenings, we don't need to go away to do it.

At home we have plenty of space, it is warm and comfortable, and we have everything we could want. Nice comfortable furniture, TV and radio, all our music, shelves full of books to read, and no need to go outside at all if we don't want to. We could even have our groceries delivered if we chose to, but the only time we actually did that was during Covid. No, winter caravanning is not for us, but if you enjoy it, go and do it.
Colin this might surprise you but I’ve been on plenty of campsites where Asda has done home delivery to the caravan ( not mine)most modern vans now have climate controlled central heating so are never cold, a kindle/tablet will hold 1000 books, a iphone will hold 100s of Lp’s if not 1000’s even just eats deliver to campsites
I love the caravan in winter! It’s much warmer than our draughty old Victorian house that we can’t get above 15 degrees without bankrupting ourselves! A few days of being toasty warm in the caravan throughout the winter is a real treat.
We were away for 4 nights a couple of weeks ago and thoroughly enjoyed it but sadly, from now to the end of January, I am either working on a Saturday or have other responsibilities so I can’t get away. Roll on February!

We have been defeated by all the rain so didn't go anywhere in the end. OH keeps telling me that snow is coming so hope we can get away on 17th December.

Bessie
I'm sure you are right Bessie, but why would I spend money I don't really have to spare only to end up with far less than I have at home? My caravan isn't modern and doesn't have central heating, but I can still get it nice and warm with a convector heater if I want to, and that is what we do if we are away and it turns cold overnight. However, my idea of caravanning isn't sitting in a caravan when it is cold and wet outside, it is going out exploring other areas, seeing different sights, and laying in the sun. There is nothing I can do in my caravan in winter that I can't do much better at home, and without having to pay out fuel costs getting to a site then having to pay site fees. If others can afford it and get pleasure out of doing it, good luck to them, I hope they enjoy themselves, but for me it would just be an endurance test that I am having to pay extra for. I'd hate being cooped up in a caravan when I could be at home with all my things around me and plenty of room to move about in. We don't spend much time actually in our caravan when we do go away, except when we are sleeping or on rainy days.
