mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm .... me thinks thats a "gloss" over of the real thing.... how come they don't mention the "real side to Billing" !!! The constant noise from the boy racers , the grotty toilet facilities etc etc???
A little something you might have missed. Remember the exchange of posts regarding the all singing all dancing high spot of the year, namely the huge landrover show?, you know, the one that was scheduled to move to pastures new in 2007?, well you browse through the events program, huh!, it seems they're not moving at all, they've seen the new improved, scenic, peaceful, idylic site for a pleasent weekend and they're staying.
I/we have many happy memories and whilst there, we had to constantly defend everything that "outsiders" had to say about the place.
We recognise that there were/are two main area's of concern that affect residents there, be it vans/cabins or whatever.
The first is noise. This can come from near neighbours and folk passing by and the second litter/mess etc. During the summer months, one can walk round the site on Mon/Tue/Wed/Thu and possibly Friday and see an acceptable amount of litter, caused by wind blown litter, bags that have been torn open by ducks/birds/dogs etc. and of course people. BUT, from late Saturday through the weekend till the staff had had to clear up, the mess is unbelievable. I can't begin to describe what those who "week-end" there, leave behind. We have seen it all. My biggest regret is not compiling a catalogue of photographs to proove my point. Apart from broken camping chairs, broken gazeebo's, barbaque trays, and discarded toys, we've seen buckets of urine, which clearly have been bought on-site, as the make/size/price tickets are clearly visible. We've seen breeds of dogs at tourers/tents, which clearly should not have been there, as under the Terms & Conditions certain types are banned. It was often said, Billing is OK Monday to Friday, but either stay in your van at weekends or leave the site. I know it's harsh, but this was often heard.
To wake and look out of the windows at all the wildlife, water and blue sky, with mist hanging over the lakes, IS great, there is no mistake. This can be every day. Except of course weekends. If our circumstances hadn't changed considerably, we still be there. Oh, and for the record, I actually enjoyed the stalls/entertainment etc that events brought.
The only disabled shower that I have seen is ok if you have someone to hold the shower head Just for a change its broke!!! . The toilets are disgusting they only get cleaned if there is a big event on. Then you have to queue for an hour or more because there is only 16 showers that are close enough for campers in shellduck, puddle duck place, and is it swan feilds ?.They havnt even started on anything for campers and cavavaners. So apart from VBOA weekend we will not be camping at Billing.

Seems very expensive compared to other sites we have stayed on and their seasonal price variations are not good. this site would not suit me but thanks for the info.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
