We want to go camping on the Isle of Skye, but have heard the midges are ferocious! Can anyone recommend the best time of year to go?

We are going in Sept this year as we were advised to go either May or the back end of the year. They are worse apparently in the summer months - can't comment first hand only going by what we have been told and read

cannot wait, just been watching some video clips on you tube!

Just remember to take your Avon Skin so Soft woodland fresh dry body oil spray. Midges hate it!!

The problem we had was not the midges it was the wind - it strained all the seams of our dome tent and it was never the same again

When we went camping on Skye we were recomended a site at Edinbaine owned by Ben and Rhonda (he`s also a biker) called Loch Greshonish. Have a look the campsite search there are some good pictures of the site, also you can order (the day before) warm freshly baked bread buns for breakfast very nice.

Looks as though you will still be able to go to the Isle of Skye, rather than "Eilean a'Cheo" - there's been rather a frenzy in the last few days about a possible name-change....
