Its our first visit to France in two weeks time with a motohome and we've got an 8.00 am ferry from Plymouth

Can anyone advise if there's anywhere to overnight near the port at Plymouth or a campsite nearby?

Also any general advice on this trip and ladning in Roscoff would be greatly appreciated

Hi

Not sure of any sites in the area but there is Exeter Services at the end of the M5 (although it is still about 40 miles to the port.

What I have seen others do is to turn up at the port and just night over in the queueing lanes or just off to one side, with a motor home you should not have any problems

Our van is kept on a site on the A38 about 30 miles before you get to Plymouth. It is an easy run down from there especially early in the morning if that is any help?

It is http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=1285 and is literally beside the A38 just after Exeter racecourse as you come off Haldon Hill past the forest.

It's quite a few years since I've been on the ferry to Roscoff, but based on my previous experience, if you're at all nervous about driving in France, then this is the best possible port to go to.

You drive off the ferry, left at a mini roundabout, and you're on the equivalent of a single carriageway A road with fields on both sides.   It's a very relaxing start to a holiday.

Hi

We went from Plymouth to Roscoff last year we stayed at Riverside holiday park in Plymouth really nice site and they cater for the ferry so are used to people coming and going at all hours and have an area with hook ups just for people arriving late or leaving early, on saying that we were on the 8.00am ferry last year and had a normal pitch just left at 7.00am which gave us plenty of time as site is only 10mins from ferry terminal. Hope this helps

We've never gone from Plymouth but would suggest you may as well stay overnight at the port; get there after the last ferry on the previous evening and it should be obvious where everyone is parking for the night, you can then use loo etc facilities in the port buildings. We've done it several times from Portsmouth; there are usually cars and caravans there as well - but it's easier in the motorhome.
That's the beauty of Motorhomes - you've paid for - use the advantage.
