We are hoping to explore Northumberland in our little motorhome at the end of the month but having never been before we've not a clue where to head for.
Hubby loves fishing and so we would like to be on a site where he can fish from either in a river, lake or even better from a beach.
Does anyone have any suggestions, we're not fussed about facilities, hookups would be nice but not essential, as long as he can have a fish!

Have a look at seahouses area or Bamburgh towards Berwick upon tweed, they are both beautiful areas, plenty of water for fishing, there are details of loads of sites on the camp site search.
We did Northumberland in a campervan last year. we went to Kielder water first, great place feels very remote, but can be midgie. We then travelled to Berwick upon tweed, used the CC site and walked into the town. Then we made our way down the coast taking in lindisfarne (check the tides), Banburgh - great castle, Seahouses - boat trip to the farne Islands, then Craster with Dunstanburgh castle. stopped of at the Angel of the North and Durham on the way home.
Also worth visiting in the area are the NT's Craigside at Rothbury and Alnwick castle which we didn't have time for.
we went to alnwick castle its a great day out for the kids and the adults, there was a bird of prey day when we were there, they were from the kielder water bird of prey centre doing a show...we went to Kielder water the day before we had a great weekend...THe roads are really good, as you feel like your out in the stick but you can get about on the roads really easy..
nice weekend we would love to go back to kielder water.

Well, maybe I'm just saying it because I live up here but Northumberland really is beautiful. I'm originally from Shipley West Yorks and have lived here for 4 years now but still feel like I'm on a permanent holiday!.
Personally I would recommend that you head for the coast just North of Alnwick. There are beautiful coastlines, coastal villages/ bays etc. Places like Newton by the Sea, Craster, Bamburgh and Seahouses should not fail to disappoint. Head North on the A1 past Alnwick and all of the above places are signposted (I think) There is only one campsite in Alnwick itself and that is Alnwick Rugby Club (which is more or less directly opposite my house). Its really cheap, have a few pitches with electric hook up and you can use the club house whilst you are there (serve cheap beer!) There are a plenty of Castles and ruins around including Alnwick castle and also the Alnwick garden which are most deffinately worth a visit. I will have a look on the local website and post back with any info I think may be useful to you. Cant think of anywhere off the top of my head that would have fishing on-site but I'm sure there will be something around that suits your requirements.

Hope that this helps! This is the visit Alnwick site. Have posted the page with the fishing links but if you look at the rest of the site it is really useful for what to do/see and where to stay in the area. Hope that you have a fantastic holiday wherever you end up......(I'm sure you will!) xx
My daughter is at university in Newcastle and we have fallen in love with the area, the people are wonderful and the coastline is breathtaking. We are off again this weekend and meeting with friends in Berwick upon Tweed.
I totally agree, when me and my family first started visiting the area we said exactly the same about how friendly folk are up here. Also, my mum and dad totally fell in love with the area like you say, they came up here twice and on their 3rd visit they bought a static caravan! I always thought that Yorkshire folk were quite a friendly bunch but people up here really are amazing. I certainly wouldn't consider moving home (Yorkshire) now for all the money in the world! xx
We are also new to Northumberland we are going to Highburn House in Wooler in August, so we would be pleased of any pointers as well. I have stored the Alnwick site on my favourites and will have a look after.
Thanks

I know I'm biased cos I live here but it is a fantastic area.
Even driving back and forward to work I am often amazed at the scenery, especially nights like tonight when its sunny. It's a big county so plan what interests you most.
Some links for you here:
General tourist site covering all of North East here
Fishing site for Northumbrian Water resevoirs etc., which OH recommends here
and yes, the people are great too.
