Im looking to explore north wales - Barmouth area possibly - I assume that counts as North (!) with a couple of kids and a dog. Any ideas for a nice quiet friendly site with some nearish facilities and not too far from scrummy dog friendly beaches? Thanks in advance!

How about shell island, very basic toilet and shower facilities, you can't book, just turn up, great beaches and the dog can go too.

Try Dyffryn Seaside estates, £12 a night and just 5 miles from Barmouth.

I am trying this camp for the first time next Friday. Read the reviews they sound favourable.

The first hand feedback I have received on Shell island isn't encouraging.

PS , anyone know if there's a pub that allows kids in near to the site.

Depends what you want from your camping, anywhere is likely to be chocka this weekend.  I hav'nt been to Shell Island for about 25 years, except for the odd day out not camping there since I was a little kid.  Very basic facilities but if you treat it as a site that needs own sanitation you'd be OK, they are I believe pretty strict about being far enough away from your neighbours.  I have a freind who only goes there, doen'nt go anywhere else camping and he loves it.  The beach is lovely and the sanddunes.

We have just had to cancel Morben Isaf (near Machynlleth) for this weekend but that looks a lovely site.  Next to a nature reserve and about 8 miles from Ynyslas Beach where you actually park on the beach.

Stayed at Caerddaniel last year, not bad either.  Bottom field is away from the road more but top field is a lot closer to the toilet block.

Hiya fleurk

WE LOVE BARMOUTH - it's a great place with the best views in North Wales and it's very doggie friendly (loads of little cafes/restaurants overlooking the harbour, bridge and mountains with outside seating for us and our furry friends!!!)......you'll love it!

We have stayed at HENDRE MYNACH twice now and NEVER been disappointed.  You can walk straight onto the promenade/beaches from the site - a nice mooch along the prom (all flat) into the town.  Just type in the site name on the camp site search and you'll get their details.

Wish we were going again this year, but time doesn't allow!

Off to Scotland tomorrow for 2 whole weeks - yippppeeee!!!!

I agree with Kernow Camper Hendre Mynach is the best site to enjoy Barmouth and never disappoints. It's a very welcoming site close to the beach and the town.

Didn't personally rate Barmouth itself (too commercialised for us although the surrounding area is beautiful), but we stayed at Tynllwyn last year, lovely site and about 15mins drive from Barmouth if I remember correctly.
It was a lovely site, with the narrow guage railway running right by the site.
